RE: England v New Zealand Test Series 2022 - Charlemagne - 26-06-2022 10:03 Ben Foakes has tested positive for Covid. He's been replaced for the rest of the test by Sam Billings. RE: England v New Zealand Test Series 2022 - Charlemagne - 26-06-2022 14:44 New Zealand set England a target of 296 RE: England v New Zealand Test Series 2022 - Boomerangutangangbang - 26-06-2022 14:47 (25-06-2022 11:45 )Boomerangutangangbang Wrote:(24-06-2022 15:27 )Boomerangutangangbang Wrote: [quote='Boomerangutangangbang' pid='2692758' dateline='1655976955'] RE: England v New Zealand Test Series 2022 - hornball - 26-06-2022 15:05 I reckon that the 296 target - given that NZ have a decent spin attack - yes Bracewell is inexperienced - may actually be worth 320 - 330 given the pitch. England have signalled it is win or bust, so what remains will certainly be worth a watch. Again a county opens the gates for nowt on the final day. A good gesture, but I wonder how many other sporting entities would do the same?? Venues by the way - where the contest is the primary concern, should - I think - be the only ones to hold tests going forward, regardless of the 'bean counters' or the numbers that may wish to watch. You don't see Man City or Liverpool etc take their matches around the country/globe to satisfy the appetites of all those that may support them, otherwise they would be playing PL games in India/China etc. Cricket maybe needs to have the same 'hard - nosed' - approach. Perhaps we don't need iconic/non - iconic series now either, nor 5 match series when three on contest pitches would suffice. At times, the ball will swing, yet it can often look very flat, usually a fast outfield, a quick scoring ground with a high percentage of boundaries. Despite the lack of pace in the pitch, it's been a well balanced surface, with seam, swing & spin in play, & good batsmen can still prosper. My god, how they are missing Jamieson. England at the close are like a runaway train, and should get home from here. Not sure that Boult and Southee can turn things around, and if England can get past the 'start again syndrome', tomorrow - free or not - may not last too long. Would it wash, if in pursuing this chase anything come what may mindset, the Ashes were lost?? It shouldn't matter if the philosophy is deemed the right one, but I have this niggling doubt in my mind. |
