actually think JK Rowling wrote about it first in 1997 Dont think was in dc comics til 2003 but as terence link showed its a legend for centurys

The character Doctor Alchemy was created in 1958 between them and there's been three different people that have had the name Alchemy. The first Alchemy went under the Mr Element and then changed it to Alchemy.
The DC version of the philosophers stone was that it once belonged to Merlin.
