RE: General News Thread - lovebabes56 - 10-08-2023 10:26 They were good for most things, but it's still a shame to see another High street shop possibly disappear saw one ex brsnch of Halifax in my county has now been turned into a KFC. RE: General News Thread - HannahsPet - 10-08-2023 13:18 if the discounters are struggling we are all fucked Whats the betting its high rents that will have been its downfall RE: General News Thread - southsidestu - 10-08-2023 20:44 I think chiefly the reasons have been competition from stores like B&M, Home Bargains, Poundland & The Range. On top of that inflationary pressures & supply chain issues. I did see a retail analyst (Richard Hyman) mention rents and rates but they face the same issues that Poundland would. The problem was not so much the base number they were paying but because they branched out into areas like furniture they needed excessively large stores which led to higher rates. On top of that a large number of their stores are on the high street which is inconvenient for larger items as you can't get parked near by, so they were paying higher rents for bigger stores to house larger items that they weren't selling. Where as competitors like The Range & B&M locate in retail parks which is better for customers. To quote a certain Putin parody Twitter account, the dildo of consequences rarely arrives lubed. It now appears that it's happened before to the owners of the former Crooked House pub. Where they bought a property and then it suddenly burnt down. How unlucky are they RE: General News Thread - Freeloaderthatsme - 17-08-2023 09:05 (17-08-2023 06:10 )Charlemagne Wrote:(09-08-2023 08:23 )Charlemagne Wrote: There's something suspect in the story about the fire at the Crooked House pub in the West Midlands. Lightning strikes twice!!! RE: General News Thread - lovebabes56 - 21-08-2023 12:26 Lucy Letby to die in prison She did not appear in dock for sentencing. Hope she gets done in, in prison for what she did, but the NHS needs to tighten its recruitment program to ensure others like her never get to work in the NHS again. The NHS does have question to answer in relation to it management recruitment and it has to show it is prepared to act swiftly. Something tells me that was destroyed/demolished deliberately one way or another and wonder if their insurers paid up without being suspicious. |
