Why?

Last over before lunch, he brought on Moeen Ali, whose last over went for 17 runs. Result - Warner's wicket in the 27th over.

Next over he brought back Broad. Result - Smith's wicket in the 28th over and Clarke's in the 32nd over.

Brought back Ali to bowl 39th over and immediately rewarded with a wicket maiden and Haddin back in the shed.

Brought back Wood to bowl 51st over and Watson was gone.

Kept Root on despite going for 17 in previous over and rewarded with Starc's wicket in 66th over and Johnson's in 70th over.

Skip, you're a marvel!

Cook made some great bowling changes and got his rewards!!

Would you drop Lyth or keep faith with him?

Can't wait for the 2nd Test. If we win that I can't see them coming back at us.

I would say that if e win the toss maybe we should bat first or is Lord's a wicket too unforgiving to bat first on?

If the weather it's like it is today, tomorrow then maybe we should bowl first.... very much hoping the pitch will be a bit more livelier than Cardiff...

Australia won the toss and chose to bat.

By close of play they had scored 337-1

How many does Bell have to drop in the slips before he is moved? After the NZ series i thought he would be farmed out to third man. Good batting by Aus but what a shite pitch, as long as we don't panic after they declare we should be able to get a draw from this. Thank god test matches are only 5 days, or else they would still be batting in a months time.

They could easily get around 550 -600+ put us in and bowls us twice cheaply....
I am disappointed wit the wicket, I had expected it to be something a little bit more livelier and maybe after the storms last night it may liven up a bit more, but doubt it. Our biggest problem today is not letting the Aussies getting above 600 and I'm sure Cook will be hoping that there is something left for our boys when we bat.

yeah get a feeling this has a draw all over it which would be good for us and bad for them. Lords has always been our bogey ground sure we won the last 2 there but how many did we lose before that Wink

It is a five day pitch designed to generate maximum revenue for the ECB, they would have been far better off producing a wicket to assist the bowlers, the aussie batsmen will have been low on confidence and it would have been a great opportunity to have completely destroyed their morale.
