But in William's case the break off he does here : -

would therefore be deemed illegal. If the players were emailed about it as Alan McManus said and many were OK about it then for me it leaves the break off rule open to interpretation by both players and referees, and whether the governing body does need to step in and clear that up so everybody is clear about what you can and can't do from the break off. We could argue till the cows come home about what is right and what isn't right with this rule. But at least I said my piece on it.

I am sure many of us have played in a snooker hall and often made the odd illegal break off. I've even been called for a foul shot in a snooker computer game!! Tongue

I know that balls have to touch the cushion in pool but does the same rule that the cue ball has to be back at the other end of the table and touch the cushion there for the break off in pool to be deemed legal. Also is it illegal or not for a red to be potted straight from the break off or not ? I always thought and had the impression that: - 1) all the balls have to be on the table too after the break and 2): the other player on his opening shot also has to return the cue ball to the other end and touch the cushion for his opening shot to declared legal and therefore be in play?

I was very much in the Anyone but Selby camp from the start of the event Rolleyes.
However the spectators who booed him are a disgrace. Not worthy of attending a World Final. I am disgusted at that behaviour. It is totally unacceptable annoyed.
The partisan BBC coverage (which many listen to on that in-ear thing) won't have helped. I looked at some of the online stuff on the BBC site and it was all "crap Selby, heroic Murphy" drivel.

Pleased for Selby, I noted him bring up his own "dark days" which I'd forgotten about. He's an exemplar to other players who are talked up in a big way (Ding, Robertson) who have under-performed for years. Should Selby be a 4-time champ? Well, someone has to win it, and if the Ronnies and the Judds can't make it, that's where the Selbys can clean up.

I was also pleased when the afternoon session was followed by a repeat of "Talking Snooker" too.

It doesn't worry me. Chances are any advantage will be like anything - some you win, some you lose.
