It was the same with the swimming - remember that US coach who insinuated that China's Ye Shiwen was using performance enhancing chemicals? I thought that it was sour grapes just because she beat Elizabeth Beisel in the final. To be fair, the US Olympic team distanced themselves from his accusations and apologized to China, so its not as if its a widespread thing, just a few people who really should know better. Surprised at Carl Lewis saying it though - would never have expected the accusations to come from his mouth. RE: Olympics 2012 - HannahsPet - 13-08-2012 16:15 the only reason they distenced themselves from it was because there 15 yr old beat becky adlington in the 800 free nearly breaking the world record RE: Olympics 2012 - SOCATOA - 13-08-2012 16:23 Have to say Carl Lewis didnt do himself any favours with his comments. Smacks of someone trying for some publicity. Sour grapes from a sourpuss IMO. Bolt is a natural sprinter and deserves to be regarded one of the greatest athletes ever seen. I read Lewis say Bolt should concentrate only on the 100m and 200m, because Bolt is thinking of entering other events. I think Lewis feels threatened that Bolt will surpass his 9 gold medals. I think Lewis has to deal with the fact that Jamaica are top dogs on the athletics track and not the USA RE: Olympics 2012 - Regenerated - 13-08-2012 16:32 (13-08-2012 16:15 )HannahsPet Wrote: the only reason they distenced themselves from it was because there 15 yr old beat becky adlington in the 800 free nearly breaking the world record Not really - they'd dismissed his comments before the 800 metres had taken place. Petra Schneider admitted to having been given illegal substances but didn't go so far as returning her medal. There wasn't anything the authorities could do because she hadn't failed a drugs test. As the evidence against her was her own confession, it was left up to her to return the medal if she wished to do so. The IOC invited her to return the medal but the invitation was ignored. USA won 5 track gold medals to Jamaica's 4 and 9 Silvers to Jamaica's 4. Counting track and field together USA won 9 golds to Jamaica's 4, 13 silvers to Jamaica's 4 and 7 bronzes to Jamaica's 4.
