RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - GMach1 - 31-01-2019 18:52 In another one of these silly Britain's favourite surveys the nation voted HARIBO STAR MIX as its favourite sweet! Now considering that we've had some amazing sweets over the years like Refreshers, Love Hearts, Saucers, Black Jacks, Fruit Salad and Sherbet Lemons, what on earth does it say about this country that we choose a GERMAN made bag of sweets as it's Number One!! RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - skully - 31-01-2019 19:38 I watched the show with the countdown on 5. I wouldn't have chosen them as number one either, not because they are German, but because they are meh, imo. I don't actually know which I would have picked in their place, one of the old school boiled sweets probably, maybe pear drops. It was nice to see Trevor and Simon again, they've not changed much. RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - SecretAgent - 31-01-2019 19:54 Haribo might be a German company but they make products for the UK market in Castleford & Pontefract. They acquired George Dunhill the maker of Pontefract Cakes years ago and have built their UK production facilities around that area. Oh yes Trevor and Simon were brilliant and I loved seeing that ad for World of the Strange which they used to do on Going Live. There were a lot of sweets missing or maybe they were higher up, like Jelly Tots, Dolly Mixtures and Mint Imperials! RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - GMach1 - 31-01-2019 22:25 Three things you could guarantee in most early 80's television series. 1) The telephone number rang or quoted was always going to start 555 2) It was either produced by Aaron Spelling & Leonard Goldberg or it was a "Quinn Martin Production" 3) In the 80's in action series the cars or other vehicles would always flip sideways in slow motion to create maximum effect. RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - GMach1 - 31-01-2019 23:39 Here's something fascinating-apparently I am a spambot https://www.babeshows.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=17445&pid=2264231#pid2264231 BTW there is snow outside on top of cars and our steps, now how would a spambot possibly know that eh? I'd laugh but it would make my back spasm. RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - GMach1 - 01-02-2019 17:53 Prince Charles and Tommy Cooper were members of the Inner Magic Circle. Cooper, whose tricks used to go wrong to comic effect was in fact a very good magician. We tended to have a lot of comedy magic but in the USA they used to make series to do with magic. The most famous was The Magician with Bill Bixby, Blacke's Magic with Hal Linden and Harry(Henry) Morgan and much later the Masked Magician in which someone I'd never heard of 'Valentine', fed up with magicians doing the same thing all the time forced them to create better tricks by showing how some of the most revered tricks were done(voice over by Mitch Pillagi). Eventually he unmasked himself but it appeared he had succeeded. One of the most famous magicians or illusionists was Harry Blackstone Jr who acted as magic consultant to the afore-mentioned The Magician series. Paul Daniels was the highest profile magician in this country with his Magic Shows once commanding nearly 20m viewers. One memorable event was done at Hallowe'en which actually caused controversy even though he had issued a warning at the beginning. He was put into an Iron Maiden and the door slammed shut as he tried to escape. The lights went down and the audience was asked to leave quietly. The switchboard at the BBC was jammed with callers AND the papers were full of it the next day. He was forced to reappear in a specially recorded piece to reveal he wasn't actually dead! Can't buy publicity like that! RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - GMach1 - 01-02-2019 21:43 Did you know that soon to be Radio 1 DJ Janice Long(sister of Keith Chegwin) appeared on an episode of 3-2-1, the ITV game show that gave away spectacular prizes like cars, holidays, furniture etc, with her then husband and got through to the final. Unfortunately they rejected the car(let's face it the person who wrote the clues was either a MENSA member or someone from OXBRIDGE as they made absolutely no sense at all at times) and the look on her face when the car was driven out to rub salt into the wound was priceless. I can't remember what it was they ended up with, but she wasn't pleased at all RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - GMach1 - 01-02-2019 21:47 Caroline Cossey is an English model. She appeared game show 3-2-1 and in the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only(poolside girl credited as TULA), and in 1991 was the first trans woman(born as a man Barry Cossey) to pose for Playboy. Following her appearance in the Bond film in 1981, she was outed by British tabloid News of the World. Cossey has since then fought for her right to legally marry and be legally recognised as a woman. And all that fuss over Nicole Charming on S66! RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - GMach1 - 02-02-2019 00:13 Brilliant artist, genius, designer of the Blue Peter ship and all-round childhood hero of mine, Tony Hart was a member of the tough fighting force The Gurkhas. |
