RE: UFC - TDK2008 - 04-10-2011 09:39

Ufc was on Versus 6 was a great show. Fight of the Night was Wiman/Danzig and I scored it for Wiman while my Dad thought Danzig won.

UFC 136 is my most anticipated UFC show of the year. The main card is stacked and I hope to see as much as possible from it (I don’t have ESPN). The main reason I’m looking forward to the show is for Edgar/Maynard III, the second fight was excellent and is still my Fight of the Year. I scored it for Frankie Edgar.

TDK's gave you a nice list to keep u going mate,i'll give u a few more.I'll leave out all the guys on TDK's list.

My Top 5 fighters to look out for

Rory Macdonald - Welterweight - Up and comer.22 yo. Bags of talent.12 wins from 13 fights. Some say the new GSP.Fights Brian Ebersole at UFC140.
Brian Stann - Middleweight - Ex Marine.Has looked like a robot in his last 3 fights winning all 3 inside the distance. He'll stand in front front of you, come forward, pick you apart and throw big bombs your way.Looks to have a steel jaw aswell.Fights Chael Sonnen on Sat night at UFC 136.Anderson Silva's biggest threat in the division for me.
Nick Diaz - Welterweight - Me and every lad on this thread could probs write you page after page on this guy.An interesting character to say the very least.A love him or hate him kind of guy.Mouthy and in your face is how i'd describe him, some would say he's misunderstood. The lad can fight though.A Former Strikeforce Welterweight Champ.Recently stripped of his chance to fight GSP for the UFC title for 2 presser no shows.Should bring some colour and drama to the division.Fights BJ Penn at UFC 137.
Alistair Overeem - Heavyweight - Former Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion who comes to the UFC with huge hype around him. Many think he'll walk through everyone on his way to being the new Champion.Others think he'll be found out in with the UFC elite.I'm with the others.Should be exciting whatever his fate.Fights Brock Lesnar at UFC 141.
Phil Davis - Light Heavyweight - Undefeated.Immensely talented, unorthodox fighter.I've said on here before that i think he could be better than Jon Jones or at least good enough to beat him at some point. He's recovering from surgery just now but he'll be sniffing around the title picture on his return.

It's always good to keep your eye out for the British fighters aswell mate.Guys like Michael Bisping who the Americans hate, coaching on The Ultimate Fighter just now,Dan Hardy,Ross Pearson,John Hathaway and Paul Sass are our best shouts just now.

RE: UFC - iamthatjack - 04-10-2011 19:37

Thanks for the list, and thanks TDK for your info, the only other thing I wanna ask is the PPV events the only way to keep up with the action? I mean, are there shows every so often that build up the PPV's, similar to boxing's 24/7 stuff? Or Is it literally TUF and the PPVs?

I'm watching this year's TUF purely because of Bisping, and watched the GSP-Koscheck one too, but this one already seems a lot better!

RE: UFC - 199lives - 04-10-2011 20:04

yes some of the bigger fights have build up show they call it ufc:primetime, up coming ones are for GSP-Condit and Velasquez-Dos Santos fight. The primetime for GSP-Diaz would have been great hopefully they both win and we still get to see it. for preview and fight build up their youtube channel is pretty good

Dana whites Vlogs can be hit and miss but his new one has alot of behind the scenes from ufc135, some good stuff

RE: UFC - iamthatjack - 04-10-2011 22:10

Cool thanks, I only ask because if it is just PPVs, its impossible to get to know the fighters and their style etc unless you watch all their fights, but they only fight a few times a year & with so many fighters, it becomes impossible!

RE: UFC - groundnpound - 04-10-2011 23:17

If you start watching the live events and TUF on a regular basis you'll probs end up getting hooked mate. You won't be long in getting to know the fighters and their styles then.

You can catch compilation vids of the fighters on you tube to get you up to speed aswell!

The champions! Wink

Dominick Cruz (BW)

Jose Aldo (FW)

Frankie Edgar (LW)

GSP (WW)

Anderson Silva (MW)

Jon Jones (LHW)

Cain Velasquez (HW)

RE: UFC - iamthatjack - 04-10-2011 23:29

Well I have always watched UFC on and off, but not subscribing to ESPN has made it harder to watch the PPVs, but I love watching TUF! As you have said, the more exposure the more I'll get into it and become hooked, hopefully that'll happen!

Thanks for the videos mate, I've also found wikipedia is pretty helpful too!

I remember a while ago sky plusing the 50 greatest fights in UFC history, was epic viewing!
