Wink Politics would be so much easier without these troublesome voters causing all the bother and voting for the wrong things and the wrong people, and then blaming the politicians Wink.

Surprised : "But surely, in a democracy...?"

annoyed : "This is a BRITISH democracy, Bernard. It is different. British democracy recognises that you need a system to protect the important things and keep them out of the hands of the barbarians.
Things like the arts.... the countryside... the law, and the Universities. Both of them.
We run a civilised meritocracy, a smoothly-running government machine, tempered only by occasional general elections. Since 1832 we have been gradually excluding the voters from government and now we have got to the point where they vote just once every four or five years purely on which bunch of buffoons will try to interfere with our policies.
Do you want the Lake District turned into a gigantic caravan site ?
Do you want to make the Royal Opera House a Bingo Hall, and the National Theatre into a carpet sale warehouse ?"

It was a posh outfit day for the ladies.
May & Leadson both wore their expensive designer outfits.

But the big surprise was Labour challenger Angela Eagle. Someone's been grooming her. She got a smart new hairstyle and eligant dress. Corburn's now looking like a casual school teacher.

It's just been pointed out on the TV that Theresa May has the same initials as Margaret Thatcher eek

So a footnote on Andrea Leadsom's fall to earth. An anagram of her name is " a sad lone dream"

Theresa May's namesake in the uk adult industry Teresa May is on the front & inside the daily star today as people are confusing her with the new prime minister.

Wouldn't surprise me if Teresa May gets an offer to do a pornshoot playing the new pm. Something similar did happen in the us

When Sarah Palin was running for Vice President of the USA in 2008, the us adult industry released a film called Who's Nailin' Palin with us adult star Lisa Ann as Serra Paylin

Close, but - Wink as snookered would say - no cigar, it's Yes Prime Minister and the one where his advisors want to get rid of troublemaking local councillors by voting reforms for local government, without stopping to think this will inevitably lead to similar voting reforms for Parliament and selection of MPs and of course also affect the Civil Service.
("Local government is a dunghill, Bernard, but it grows beautiful roses. If we try to clear up the dung and lose our balance.....")

Is it a fall to earth? She came a worthy second in the leadership ballot and greatly increased her public profile, plus by withdrawing gets credit for sparing the Conservative party a 9 week election campaign. Surely she's a winner in all this?
