RE: UFC - groundnpound - 24-10-2011 21:25

It looks a quality card mate. Think Penn vs Diaz could be the real deal, should be a good scrap! lookin forward to it. Siver vs Cerrone looks the business aswell and Congo vs Mitrione.

Should be a good night.

Glad Florian decided to fight on TDK.Think he's got plenty left to give.

Agreed. Feel sorry for Florian coming up short three times in UFC Championship fights.

My UFC 137 main card predictions:

B.J. Penn vs. Nick Diaz – Penn, DEC
Cheick Kongo vs. Matt Mitrione – Kongo, DEC
Mirko Filipović vs. Roy Nelson – Nelson, DEC
Scott Jorgensen vs. Jeff Curran – Jorgensen, TKO, R2
Hatsu Hioki vs. George Roop – Hioki, DEC

RE: UFC - groundnpound - 28-10-2011 11:21

How do the Jorgensen vs Curran and Hioki vs Roop fights get on the main card before Siver vs Cerrone? The winner of that will get a Title shot i reckon.

UFC 137 sat/sun morning @ 2am on espn.

I'd have swapped Jorgensen/Curran for Cerrone/Siver. Cerrone/Siver should be on the main card though the UFC might have put them on the main prelim show to entire last minute buys as I've never seen a duff Cerrone fight. The winner won't get a UFC Lightweight title shot just yet, the winner of Ben Henderson/Clay Guida at UFC on Fox 1 will get the next shot.

Speaking of that show, Premier Sports will be showing Velasquez vs. dos Santos live in the UK. Premier Sports has shown the last couple of UFC shows which weren't PPV's.

RE: UFC - mitchell - 29-10-2011 13:41

I've not done this for a while. Shy

UFC 137 ESPN 2am (Or 1am or 3am, the clock thing???)

Prelims
Tyson Griffin v Bart Palaszewski
Griffin's got a good record of 15-5 & fighting out of the Xtreme Couture gym is a typical Randy Couture style fighter 6 KO's 3 subs 6 dec & was going well untill he lost 3 in a row & tonight faces one of the WEC clan in Polish born Yank 'Bartimus' a BBJ black belt 34-14, 15 KO's 11 subs 8 dec, his career has consisted of in & out runs: 4 losses before losing only 4 of his next 34 with a few long winning streaks but as of 2007 is 6-6.
His UFC debut tonight has the halmarks of a decent fight??? - Palaszewski KO
Dennis Siver v Donald Cerrone
Dennis Siver's on a 4 fight win streak & has won 8 of his last 9 so if he wins this fight I can see him getting a title shot against the winner of Frankie Edgar v Clay Guida/Ben Henderson.
Donald Cerrone's on a 5 fight win streak of his own but eventhough he's coming from WEC I'm not sure if he'll get a title shot off the back of a win here, maybe one more fight should he win???
With 11 bonuses between them this should be a great fight & the only reason I can find for it being on the prelims is that the UFC need to be putting the new weights on the main card to get the fighters more well known, but this fight should still be on the card in place of either Cro Cop or Kongo's fight!!!
Cerrone has 12 sub wins & eventhough his fights are always exciting I think Siver will have too much big game experience over 3 rounds as he's good on both the feet & the ground. - Siver Decision
Hatsu Hioki v George Roop
Hioki is fighting outside of Japan for only the 4th time in his 24-4 career & makes his UFC debut. Roop 12-7 I remember in name only from TUF but with a current run of 4 wins in his last 9 & a career record with no more than 3 wins in a row this may be his last fight in the UFC should he lose, depending on his contract??? - Hioki Submission
Scott Jorgensen v Jeff Curran
Jorgensen fights in the UFC for the second time after losing his WEC Bantamweight title challenge to Dominik Cruz. 12-4 he's only been stopped once.
Veteran Curran 33-13 has been around since 1998 & fought in a number of organizations, WEC 1-4 the longest with 5 fights in 2007 to 2009. - Jorgensen Decision
Mirko Filipović v Roy Nelson
I don't understand this fight!!! Cro Cop should've retired last year, his current UFC record is 3-3 with all 3 wins against people he should destroy & his losses against the fighters who are where he wants to be now he's got another big name but Nelson himself is struggling so a win here maybe the saving grace for Mirko???
This is a dangerous fight for Roy Nelson 2-2 (UFC) to take if he's serious about his career. If he wins then he finally puts Cro Cop to bed but if he loses then he's right back at the bottom with some seeing him as only somewhat better suited to the UFC then Kimbo Slice!!!
I can see Cro Cop being nervous once again & still struggling to throw kicks & Nelson just standing there looking for the big KO shot, in which case it'll only be a matter of time before Cro Cop is dropped & Nelson wins by ref stoppage due to groundnpound. - Nelson TKO
Cheick Kongo v Matt Mitrione
I like the look of this fight as Kongo has all the tools needed but at 36 & after 5 years & 14 fights 9-4-1 in the UFC he still looks nowhere near a top class fighter & has only once in the UFC put a 3 fight win streak together.
TUF late arrival at 33 Mitrione 5-0 is on a good run but faces his first acid test here & eventhough he's somewhat heavier than Kongo, the Frenchman has a lot of experience of getting to his feet after taking some punishment on the bottom so Mitrione will have his work cut out & this is a good opponent for Knogo to go unbeaten in 4 fights & maybe set himself up for a go at 'Big Country' should they both win??? - Kongo TKO
B.J. Penn v Nick Diaz
I can't wait for this fight I think it's a better match up than the fights that they were both supposed to have.
One thing I am massively surprised at is that in 20 UFC fights BJ is another fighter who has never won more than 3 straight fights. Surprised & his record of late is only 1-2-1. it's been well documented that his cardio has been his downfall at times but this is a fight perfectly made for the BJ style so no doubt he'll be ready to go the full 15min at full pace come fight time.
Diaz regardless what people think knows how to not only sell a fight but take part in one. Currently on a 10 fight win streak & won 14 of his last 16 has everything needed to challenge GSP & be a UFC champion but he'll need to be on the very top of his game to beat a fired up BJ.

BJ Penn
16-7
KO 7-2
Subs 6-0
Dec 3-5
Draw 2

Nick Diaz
25-7
KO 13-2
Subs 8-0
Dec 4-5
NC 1

Neither fighter has ever been submitted, both only lost twice by KO & both fighters have lost more decisions than they've won.

This is a very hard fight to call & many will say it'll be a decision win but I think both fighters will be too fired up to let that happen & given neither fighter has been submitted (As the other Buffer once said "Somebody's 0 has got to go") I don't wanna call it as that. bladewave.... - Diaz TKO

RE: UFC - groundnpound - 29-10-2011 23:54

Nice preview Mitchell, You're back in the groove i see, a good read mate Wink.

Can't believe both u lads (TDK,Mitchell) have Kongo down to beat Mitrione.... This lad's the real deal, a late bloomer with just the 5 fights at 33 but the real deal none the less. He'll knock Kongo out!!!

I've said it before and i'll say it again now, Nick Diaz's list of opponents don't stack up to much. Journeyman after journeyman after journeyman. The lad's tough and likes a scrap and he's obviously a pretty decent fighter who's beaten whats been put in front of him but imo he won't cut the mustard in with the UFC elite. He'll bring heart and plenty of guts and it's just aswell coz i reckon he'll need plenty of both! Should be entertaining later but Penn to stop him Wink

Hatsu Hioki vs. George Roop I've not a scooby doo about either of these lads but for prediction purposes i'll go for a Roop decision victory. Roop Dec

Scott Jorgensen vs. Jeff Curran Same as above. Not a clue about either fighter. Their presence on the main card is a mystery lads! Jorgensen Dec

Mirko Filipović vs. Roy Nelson "Right leg, hospital. Left leg, cemetery." That'll do me Wink Filipović TKO Rnd 1

Cheick Kongo vs. Matt Mitrione Mitrione KO Punches Rnd 2

B.J. Penn vs. Nick Diaz Penn KO Punches Rnd 1
