To be fair to the Beeb the latest update on her condition says she has a triple spinal fracture and a concussion. She's being kept in intensive care for 24 hours. I'm not even remotely squeamish but that crash definitely took the enjoyment out of the race for me.

just seen the replay and it dont know why definately seemed to look worse in realtime than in replay. must have been bad boardman was in shock for a few mins. your right tumble drier the end was spoilt by the thought she could have been seriously injured or killed as the last we saw of her was lying motionless in the gutter

Looks like that Dutch cyclist hit her front brake only, which is odd for a seasoned cyclist.

My (completely amateur) take on it..

Her line was totally wrong heading into the corner. She knew she was going to crash and the obvious skid suggests her rear was fully locked up but she wasn't stopping. She then grabbed a handful of front brake which sent her over the bars.

I'm about as far from a lightweight Pro as it's possible to be, but there have been a few dodgy moments when i've had both brakes fully locked up and the rear wheel has begun to lift.

Chris Boardman warned about that downhill section before the mens race. Nibali ended up with 2 broken collar bones. It was a great course but that section was too dangerous as there was no run off if you made a mistake -Just concrete and trees.

Djokovic v Del Potro so early in the Tennis singles Surprised.
Crikey eek. Great atmosphere in the arena too.
Meanwhile the Murray brothers are in doubles action against Sa and Bellucci of Brazil.
Needless to say pretty intense atmosphere there too.

I use to cycle quite a bit, and have been arse over tip over the handle bars, tiping over like that only happens if the front locks only.

So either she had the rear brake on and then let go out of panick (which seems unlikely givn her class) or there was a rear brake failure, may be the rear cable snapped.

Mens doubles: The number two seeded Murrays have been beaten by an inspired Sa and Bellucci in straight sets.
Mind you the number one seeds also lost.

The Williams sisters are out of the womens doubles as well.

Adam Peaty set to go in the 100m breaststroke at 02.53am.
Jazz Carlin in the 400m freestyle final at 03.01am.
