RE: UFC - TDK2008 - 20-11-2011 11:07 UFC 139 SPOILERS FOLLOW..... I called 4/5 main card fights, the only one I missed out on was Bonnar/Kingsbury. Henderson/Rua was superb, a back and forth fight apart from the fifth. I scored it a draw as Henderson won the first three rounds but lost the next two, the fifth was 10-8 to Rua. Glad Silva won and Urijah Faber put on a great performace. Cruz/Faber III will now be happening and I look forward to it. Martin Kampmann v Rick Story 'Bedtime' started well but as soon as Kampmann found his feet he started to pick his shots right & this ruled the fight, It was a good performance from the Dane knowing not to use his kicks incase he got taken down & running the fight with his superior technical striking. Urijah Faber v Brian Bowles Urijah Faber now fights for the title after yet another impressive fight but like I said he needs to do it consistently at the top level or he's gonna be another Clay Guida... Not that thats a bad thing. I'd only seen 1 or 2 of his WEC fights & from them & his UFC fights I think he's becoming one of my favourites. Wanderlei Silva v Cung Le This looked like it was gonna be another early night for Silva, with him unable to get anywhere near Le but the first big shot he landed & opened up a cut Cung Le didn't look like he was in the fight much after that with his movement & attack slowing to an almost snail pace & letting Wanderlei close down the space. Eventhough I think he might of got the stoppage anyway I'd have to agree with Joe Rogan & say the new ref was on it like a tramp on a sandwich. Maurício Rua v Dan Henderson So err not much to report on in this shitty slop fest... I don't know if it was better than Forrest Griffin v Stephan Bonnar but it is definitely somewhere near that level. Maybe cause I wanted Shogun to win, but I don't know about the decision. An unreal fight, heart, guts, willpower, strength of mind, it had it all. http://www.mma-core.com/videos/_Dan_Henderson_vs_Mauricio_Shogun_Rua_UFC_139_?vid=10024582&tid=100 Press videos to see all above fights & Ryan Bader's KO. RE: UFC - Winston Wolfe - 23-11-2011 00:26 I've thought for a while, as I'm sure many others do, that more UFC main events should be 5 rounds - and the Henderson/Shogun fight proved the point. If that fight had been over 3 rounds, not many people would be making a big deal of it. Henderson would have been a clear winner in a one-sided fight. It was Shogun's comeback in the 4th & 5th rounds that made it a classic. There have been too many UFC non-title main events that have failed to live up to the hype. The Evans/Rampage fight is one that springs to mind. In the 3rd round, Rampage was just getting into the fight and started to put the pressure back on Evans. It was one of those fights that needed a 4th & 5th round. Not sure what the UFC's plans are, but they should definitely arrange more non-title main events over 5 rounds in the future... RE: UFC - groundnpound - 23-11-2011 11:48 Totally agree WW. The 5 round main events are perfect for some fights, like Shogun vs Hendo proved. I think any main event fight between the top guys who are in and around the title picture should be 5 rounds. It's a proper test. RE: UFC - mitchell - 23-11-2011 20:55 I was under the impression that all main event fights from now on will be 5 rounds & not just the ones with top or big name fighters in them??? Cung Le like Brandon Vera has a very good manager, Vera must also still have a few fights left on his contract, after which I think he'll be cut, unlike Clay Guida who after his current contract runs out will sign a new one & get better pay. Cung Le is also a big star in the MMA world as well as the film industry... I think??? Brandon Vera: $120,000 ($60,000 win bonus) def. Eliot Marshall: $15,000 Ben Henderson: $60,000 ($30,000 win bonus) def. Clay Guida: $40,000 RE: UFC - groundnpound - 24-11-2011 15:20 Yeah you're right mate, he's an actor aswell. He was in Fighting with Channing Tatum, that's probs why he was there the other night. All main event fights from UFC138 onwards are 5 Rounds. They should cut this back to fighters in the title picture imo. In saying that, most main events are between guys in the title hunt. So my argument is kinda pointless. Thiago Alves vs Martin Kampmann being lined up for March. http://mmajunkie.com/news/26240/thiago-alves-vs-martin-kampmann-in-the-works-for-ufc-event-in-march.mma RE: UFC - mitchell - 24-11-2011 20:27 Yeah I said that to someone when the 5 round none title fights thing was announcement, it should be for title eliminators, as the 5 rounds will test their champoins credentials. Thiago Alves v Martin Kampmann sounds like a good watch. But is it yet another test of the Alves staying power at welterweight against.... 'The UFC Crash Test Dummy' or are the UFC finally giving Kampmann the opportunity to actually go somewhere, if he wins & I think he will then he deserves to be within a shot of being maybe 2 fights away a title fight. |
