Its the same review as they did about 4 years ago when the 1 series came out and they reviewed it against the Golf GTI R32 then basically said the same thing Golf is the better car and basically paying more for a BMW badge it is same RE: Top Gear - circles_o_o_o - 17-03-2014 16:44 The second half of the Burma special was a good dose of what you expect from them. Mostly enjoyable immature antics but a couple of serious reflective moments about the memory of the prisoners of war who suffered there. Hammond continues to irritate with his over-acting but I couldn't help laughing at him 'taking a black cock' etc etc. I would be interested to know how much truth there was to James being in danger of being hit by the falling crane jib. Was it carefully stage-managed horseplay or a lucky near miss? RE: Top Gear - Doddle - 17-03-2014 21:29 Caught up with this, having left watching pt 1 until I could watch both together. I thought it was pretty good, but the shadow of the India debacle did take a bit of the gloss off. These specials work better when it's just "get from A to B". When there's tacked-on missions too, then it tips over into the realm of "let's laugh at the fuzzy-wuzzies". That said, if you're at all taken in with travelogues to places of glorious scenery, then this is the show for you. Though it's a tiny bit silly to say "this is the scene of a bloody and brutal civil war that's lasted for decades... you gotta come here!!!" Looking back over the series, I think apart from the opening show, it's been one of the better ones RE: Top Gear - jimmyt73 - 17-03-2014 22:43 Well i have to say i have enjoyed the whole series emennsely and the two part Burma special was a fitting end to it,with the right mix of cocking about and not forgetting the sacrifices made and hardships endured by so many men over 70 years ago. RE: Top Gear - The Silent Majority - 18-03-2014 07:27 Just about the best 'special' they've ever done, I think I don't think I've seen one with so many genuine laugh-out-loud moments, and without being disrespectful about the history of the bridge either. RE: Top Gear - Billy_Nomates - 22-04-2014 14:46 The Top Gear - Burma Special, is out on DVD on 2nd June. RE: Top Gear - circles_o_o_o - 24-04-2014 14:05 On last week's 'Have I Got News For You' , Clarkson was the guest presenter and he was explaining that on the Ukraine special, the soundtrack was edited to remove the word "the" every time they referred to "the Ukraine" as this is actually offensive to some people who live there. So he says they all sound like the Yorkshiremen now (will they now take offence?). |
