Yeah, the Catalonia situation will be uppermost on their minds right now. Can't have those pesky Scots setting a precedent RE: Scottish Independence - HannahsPet - 12-02-2014 21:55 looks like the Partys in England are about to put a huge hole in the scotland wanting to keep the pound after independance basically saying you cant have monatary union cant blame them to be honest RE: Scottish Independence - Digital Dave - 12-02-2014 22:10 This seems to be an odd tactic by England. By sticking two fingers up to the Scots they've jeopardised keeping a handle on north sea oil and also sharing the British debt. Alex Salmond will go straight into the Euro. A few years ago this would've been inconceivable but now the financial crisis is effectively over and economic growth is back across the Euro zone. It looks to me like England now thinks independence is a reality and this threat is an attempt to scare the Scots into staying in the UK. Independence - bring it on! Nah not scare tactics just stating the fact that if was currency union would have tobe joint policy on tax and spend and other political things thought thats what independence was for so you could make these decisions yourselfs The english have been for independence since was announced think we are at the point in relationships where we know your going to leave just wish you would fuck off so we get on with life RE: Scottish Independence - Tumble_Drier - 12-02-2014 23:20 How could Salmond go straight into the Euro when it's impossible to meet the criteria? For a start, you would need need to join the ERM and "shadow" the Euro(within +/-15%) for 2 years, which is a bit hard to do without your own currency... Then there's the requirement to be an EU member, which can't be done overnight. RE: Scottish Independence - dominar rygel xvi - 13-02-2014 13:17 Why would an independent Scotland want the UK pound anyway? RE: Scottish Independence - Charlemagne - 13-02-2014 13:23 It's a bit like when a teenager decides to leave home and be independant. They still want to bring all their dirty washing home and go to mum when they are short of money RE: Scottish Independence - Tutankamon - 13-02-2014 13:48 Because they think a Scottish currency could never be seen as established and as credible as the UK pound and as a small independent currency it would face more risks and as a result have a dangerous lack of stability. Although in fact small countries with strong and stable currencies do exist, such as the Swiss franc, the Norwegian krona and the Singapore dollar for example.
