Agree
All I can see happening is Finn for Tremlett

I am absolutely in despair with this performance the optimism held on this thread has been well and truly misplaced i struggle to understand why poor old Nick Compton has been fucked off. Fly him out immediately and put Jor Root in at number three. I suppose we have to perservere with Pietersen but I would be giving a rest to Prior. Give the gloves to Bairstow,at least he had a go in the summer. Get Finn in and I think we need to go with four seamers or at the least give Panesar a shout.

We need to do something cause we aint even competing and thats worrying if we lost a tight test then fair enough but we were not close. I can see Cook, Bell and Root making runs. I can see Broad and Andersen taking wickets but thats half a team performing.

Dont get me started on the Rugby League as well! Gonna start pretending I am Scottish at this rate!

Don,t despair England will regroup and fight back, this is the 2nd best ranked team in the world, the same one that beat Australia 3-0 and won in India. They have had a bad test, even Steve Waughs aussies had the odd bad game. I would keep the same lineup for the next test and if changes need to made after that maybe i would consider Finn and Bairstow, depending on the conditions.

The batting let England down twice ,with one or two exceptions - Carberry 1st innings and Cook and Root 2nd .
The bowling apart from Broad was nothing to write home about either .
They'll stick with same team (subject to injuries / illness) for next test .
They've struggled in the opening test in the last few series , but pulled it around .
Another 10 days to the next test , means 10 days acclimatisation .
It's not all over yet .
This time last year ,India thumped them in the first test . But who won the series ?

If I was to make changes I would drop Pietersen and Trott and bring in either Bresnan or Finn, and Bairstow and pair Cook up with either Bell or Root and give Pietersen and Trott some games out of the Test Match scene to find their confidence and get runs flowing. I agree it's ben a long time since England have lost an opening Test match, but I think the manner of this defeat is going to rankle for a very long time after the series is over.

I am not a huge fan of Jonathan Trott, but the way people are talking, you'd swear he was absolutely rubbish. He has a test average of 46.45, that's fairly phenomenal. It looks like the Aussies have figured him out and are using certain tactics to get the wicket, but dropping him isn't the answer!
As an Irish man whose watched English cricket for years, i remember countless other players who were in bad form, having their head called for by fans - Bell, Cook, Trescothick, Pietersen and Michael Vaughan to name a few have all gone through a rut like this, and come good in the end.

If you do go ahead and drop Trott, you will lose an experienced test cricketer, and replace him with someone untried and untested, in the white-hot heat of a 2nd test in Adelaide, i think it'd be ludicrous to do it at this stage.

I don't really see that. I hardly think KP is short of confidence and as I said in earlier post Trott's problems seems to be against genuine quick bowling which he will not face in a couple of warm up matches.

From what you have said the batting order would be Cook, Root, Carbs, Bell, Bairstow, Prior, Bressie, Broad, Tremlett, Swan, Anderson? Which means moving Prior, who does not seem able buy a run to 6, and a long tail. If Finn was chosen instead of Bressie an even longer tail.

Trott's leaving the tour party and is returning home due to a stress related illness (BBC NEWS)

He's going to take a break from cricket.

Whatever our opinions on his batting I wish him well.
If he is suffering from such problems his mindset is not going to be right anyway.
He has done the right thing, his health must come first.
