RE: World Snooker Championship 2024 - Snooks - 01-05-2024 16:56 I am quite relaxed about any of the remaining contenders winning now. All my nightmare winners are out which represents absolutely outstanding news. The pockets are playing tighter which I approve of actually. I think players had it too easy for too long and were able to take liberties with pots up and down cushions. Now they need to be deadly accurate. The safety play is excellent this year I feel. I don't dispute that Ronnie, like Judd, wasn't good enough. Or that John Higgins rarely looked like he was at the races. But the next 3 days are likely to feature commentary about how Gilbert and Jones were lucky to get this far and should take their lumps with grace, etc RE: World Snooker Championship 2024 - Joannis - 01-05-2024 22:47 Superman's weaknesses are kryptonite and magic. Ronnie can be the most consistently good player on the tour, but if the other player is the player with the mojo, there is nothing Ronnie can do about it. No triple crown this season for Ronnie, but this match showed how difficult it is for any player to win the triple crown all in the same season. Ronnie leaps over Selby to be provisionally World no.4 but he fails to regain his no,1 spot. I said 2 qualifiers in the final was an unlikely event, now it looks ever more likely with 3 of the 4 semi finalists being qualifiers. Kyren with his 13-8 victory over Higgins being the only seeded player remaining. RE: World Snooker Championship 2024 - Snooks - 01-05-2024 23:09 I had a bet on Bingham to win 13-11 so was only one frame out ![]() No question about it though, he deserved the win. The semi finals look absolutely fascinating. I hope for a Gilbert v Jones final but suspect it will be Wilson v Bingham. However with the way this Championship has gone and given the state of my prediction abilities don't take my word for it ![]() Tatiana Woollaston will be reffing one of the semi finals too which is thoroughly well deserved. Paul Collier has the final. Semi finals: Best of 33 frames Kyren Wilson (12) v David Gilbert Stuart Bingham v Jak Jones RE: World Snooker Championship 2024 - HannahsPet - 02-05-2024 10:11 see i have the same cursing power as Snooks ![]() ![]() wouldnt mind seeing Wilson vs Jones Final so will prob be gilbert vs bingham ![]() ![]() RE: World Snooker Championship 2024 - Doddle - 02-05-2024 13:40 It doesn't say much for the seeding system when only 1 makes the final 4, and he's the fearsome #12, who's previous career zenith is... what? The Shanghai Masters? The German Masters? Bingham is basically doing what Murphy did 2 years ago, only there's no Selby to stand in his way. Or maybe it's Wilson's year after all. RE: World Snooker Championship 2024 - HannahsPet - 02-05-2024 13:44 think those going through qualifying prob have an advantage by getting into rhythm early RE: World Snooker Championship 2024 - Snooks - 02-05-2024 15:07 I just hope the final goes 17-17 with a respotted black in the decider ![]() RE: World Snooker Championship 2024 - Snooks - 02-05-2024 15:49 A good opening session between Wilson and Gilbert finishes all square at 4-4. Both players settled into a nice rhythm and will sleep well tonight having got themselves into the match. Wilson was on for a maximum in the final frame of the session but couldn't quite convert the opportunity. Good stuff though and evidence if any were needed just how deserving they both are of being in the semi finals this year. RE: World Snooker Championship 2024 - Joannis - 02-05-2024 16:46 Nice to see Gilbert staying neck and neck with Kyren. I wouldn't like to see Kyren running away with it. My preferred final would be Gilbert v Bingham, but Gilbert v Jones is also good as well because it won't just be 2 Englishmen in the final, there'll be a Welshman in there as well. If and when the World Championship is held overseas maybe we'll get more of an international line up in the closing stages. |
