When George Lucas was mixing the American Graffiti soundtrack, he numbered the reels of film starting with an R and numbered the dialog starting with a D. Sound designer Walter Murch asked George for Reel 2, Dialog 2 by saying "R2D2". George liked the way that sounded so much he integrated that into another project he was working on.

Every flight you have been on and will go on, there is always something not working. Whether it be an arm rest or a minor electrical system.

The crew will know about it but it’s usually something minor so there’s no danger what so ever.

It’s called the ‘Minimum Equipment List’. It varies depending on aircraft type.

“Arkansas” and “Kansas” are spelled the same because they both derive from the same etymological root (a Sioux word meaning “downriver”).

They are pronounced differently because Arkansans took the French pronunciation of the word and the Kansans took the Spanish pronunciation.

The most venomous jellyfish in the world is the Irukandji. While it’s not the most deadly jellyfish, it is number two! Even more shocking, is that this tiny jellyfish is smaller than your fingernail. Its venom is 100 times more powerful than a cobra’s!

The 20th of March is Snowman Burning Day. This strange holiday was spawned by American and Swiss citizens to symbolize the end of the winter season.

Queen Elizabeth can’t sit on the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones. The Queen visited the set of Game of Thrones, but because of an obscure rule, she wasn’t allowed to sit on it – the ruling monarch can’t sit on a foreign throne, even if it’s fictional, apparently.
