Indeed. We have inconveniences like decent working conditions, Health & Safety and an aversion to slave labour. I said when it was announced (possibly in a post here?) that it would cost 2 to 3 times the initial estimate, just like most major Government Projects do. Anyone who has ever dealt with a Government Dept on a project will know the kind of bullshit that goes on. Yes, that is disadvantage of China, they can’t even form trade unions. However, they have managed to lift 800 million of their own people out of poverty. RE: General News Thread - SecretAgent - 18-06-2025 21:53 ^ I've been on Chinese high Speed trains. Very impressive. Stations are impressive too and ticketing for foreigners is all linked to your passport which you scan like at airports. If they deem it national infrastructure they move everything out if its way - and rehouse people usually in better homes than they had. I know people who remember the days of famine - they fully understand how far China has modernised and how much better off they are. RE: General News Thread - lovebabes56 - 19-06-2025 08:27 I bet the Japanese bullet trains are just as impressive and there are way better stations there than here too. Would a bullet train beat a HS2 train in a race? Successive Tory Governments faffed about on it way too much and it looks like Starmer's lot will do the same. I remember it was just over 2 hrs on the I C 125 from Stevenage to Doncaster for then another 45 mins or so from Doncaster to Sheffield to visit a friend for me. Whether this HS2 service will ever be VFM when finally up and running will be the bigger question. And at this stage all I can say is : - the country is not getting the VFM in bloody building it. A lot of that money could gone into improving the health service, etc - and some could have gone into improving as much of the existing railway infrastructure especially some stations to bring it up to 21st century standard. RE: General News Thread - The Silent Majority - 26-06-2025 14:16 New? ![]() Been using most of them all my life ![]() https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crenw75rlr1o RE: General News Thread - skully - 27-06-2025 17:12 Fuck all these celebs that obviously don't know Bezos or his other half, but are showing up for a free party, with a side of protests, in Venice. These are those same people that are happy to rock up to an event held in Saudi Arabia, cashing a cheque and looking away from the issues. It's obscene, sure he'll be contributing to local business and is apparently donating to charity, but it doesn't change the fact he avoids paying full tax and treats his employees with little dignity or respect, or pays them what they deserve, can't hide those truths with a fancy celeb filled publicity stunt, gross. It's out of touch and ego tripping nonsense. RE: General News Thread - lovebabes56 - 27-06-2025 19:41 It's bloody disgusting that someone like him throws money around like it's going out of fashion (Sorry for language Timothy!) and thinks the world is interested in his nuptials - I probably think the world is split in half on this. I wonder how many amazon workers will protest about about this going on and how he should show a bit more respect to those who work for him. Totally agree Skully - now where's the forum's sick bucket please?? RE: General News Thread - Tumble_Drier - 27-06-2025 20:43 With all that cash you would think he could have found himself a new wife that doesn't look like she's auditioning the play The Joker in the next Batman movie. RE: General News Thread - SecretAgent - 27-06-2025 20:46 I assumed as he owns Amazon he’d bought her online and where it asks if you’d like to add extras chose fake tits & a nose job. |
