If it's January, it must be time for hoary old rockers to release new albums (not that this will be on it):

Let's cheer ourselves up a bit:

Music; Cover versions better, 99% of them.

Films & TV; Remakes & Reboots much worse, 99% of them.

I think that there are actually very few covers of originals (assuming quality in the first place) that could be considered as good, let alone better, than the original. They do exist of course, but exception not the rule??

I will mention two from a couple of female singers I consider to be the best on the planet :-

Faouzia - J Cole's Middle Child. Simply incredible what she has done with that!

Sohyang - Westlife (ugh!!!) You Raise Me Up and Whitney Houston I will always Love You improved out of sight and a third Michael Bolton's 'Lean On Me'

Mind You, anything these two outstanding artists (the charts or success measured in numbers wont reflect that I fear, as we have got ourselves so trapped by the 'mainstream dumbing down cycle) touch invariably turns to Platinum - particularly if Faouzia doesn't continue the 'popcorn and bubble gum' route - with Fur Elise, she has thankfully rediscovered her 'vibe' and USP!

And now for no apparent reason, Joe Jackson sings some Londoner hits:

One of my all time favourite Pantera tracks, taken from one of my all time favourite ever Heavy Metal albums - The guys here do a pretty decent effort at this cover imo Smile

I actually saw Pantera (the original line up) live at Ozzfest '98 at Milton Keynes Bowl, cracking festival and along with the likes of Slayer, Fear Factory, Foo Fighters (who replaced Korn, who were originally due to be part of the line up) - The whole set was purely amazing and something I'll never forget - Pantera were as lively, energetic and as awesome as ever! Smile - even the up and coming Coal Chamber were there. Excellent couple days that was well worth it Smile.

RE: Cover versus Original - The Silent Majority - 11-10-2024 22:22

So, I recently came across this lot on Youtube. They're basically a tribute act, but tribute to a genre rather than a band.

Sacrilege, I hear you cry Wink but they're actually very good at what they do, and well worth a watch Smile
