I think the Lionesses should be proud of their performances through out this tournament. In many ways, they have played better skilful football than the men's team did in Russia and played with an attitude and passion. It is disappointing that they fell short again in the semi finals but this teams surely has done wonders for the growth of the women's game in this country, but the real work starts in bringing through younger players and fresh faces for the next competition, as I would think that while many of this team may form the nucleus of team in the next European championships, many may not be at the next World Cup. Phil Neville has done well with the girls and should be commended for how he has developed the team.

Congratulations to the Netherlands who beat Sweden 1-0 in the other semi-final.

The third place match takes place today, ahead of the final tomorrow. It's always said that players don't want to play in the third place match, but it looks like England and Sweden are both keen to win this if they can.

I have this ominous feeling we are going to leave with nothing to show for it(i.e. a medal) just as England men lost their 3rd place play off against whoever it was - I hope I'm wrong or it's back to the old drawing board and a rebuild of the squad as I understand some will be retiring like Karen Carney.

Oh well the spectre of 1966 will continue to hang around England like an unwanted albatross for another four years. England weren't good enough again, but they can build on this and get better. It's going to hurt but the Euro's are coming up shortly so re-group, get some new players in and get ready for those.

USA are World Champions for a fourth time defeating Netherlands 2-0 and they become the second team after Germany to retain the World Cup in the Women's game

Hardly surprising the USA won, they've been saying they are going to since they put 13 past poor old Thailand. The next time WE meet the USA could be in the Olympics but as TEAM GB, where we can draw from N.Ireland, Wales and Scotland's best(assuming that Scotland are still part of GB to start with) New names & faces probably and a chance to rebuild the England side for the Euros in two years time.

USA was the best team in the tournament without doubt but at some stages Netherlands and Spain could of beat them if it wasn't for the con pens given by VAR and the referee's but none the less they have been the best defending champions i have seen in years normally they fail miserably in their defence they deserved to retain their title.

Is there any good players over Northern Ireland,Scotland and Wales i don't know a lot about Women's football i don't think there is as them teams don't seem to qualify for the Euro's and World Cup a part from of course Scotland this year.
