The bowling, oh for a real bit of pace! The problem is it doesn’t feel right leaving out Anderson, Broad of Potts.
You could maybe leave one or other of Broad and Anderson out sometimes with the Overton twins in the frame - there may be others on the county circuit - surely must be, for certain matches - if only to start making succession plans. The thing is then, however, will that mean England showing less interest in the world test championship, and their wanting to compete for it?? I don't think - given the format - that England could afford to pick and choose as every series becomes as important as each other - if they want to be crowned World Champions, and Broad/Anderson are still dangerous weapons in the armoury! Difficult conundrum to solve for sure! Potts on the other hand - a great piece of foresight from Stokes to pick him - nepotism be damned - is in for the long run. Need to mange his workload perhaps, but there really is a lot to like about him, and he has already shown his worth to the teams plans going forward.

Sometimes Pace can be a blinkered obsession for England, and maybe they need to cut their cloth more. There is more than one way to 'skin a cat' I get the intimidatory factor with pace, bit it isn't the be all and end all.

Regardless of where you're playing I would always want one of my 4 main bowlers to bowl high 80's minimum. In this game India's 4th seamer bowled as quick as any of our bowlers.
But you can't pick what you don't have. Great to see Olly Stone charging in tonight bowling rapid, taking a career best 4-21. Left-arm pace is considered a must for any white-ball side. David Payne would made an impressive ODI debut against the Netherlands, is tall bowls high 80's, with great control, he has a solid, if not spectacular First-Class record. I could easily see him open the bowling in Test Match cricket.

England out of the traps quickly in pursuit of 378. So far the pitch has remained unresponsive to the Indian attack. Still a long way to go obviously, but unless the track reacts, and/or the spinners can extract something, looking good for England provided they don't let their 'front foot' approach be India's 'missing bowler'.

All credit to the bowlers, bowling India out for only 245 was a hell of an effort. Stokes in particular bowled fantastic! It’s the smoothest his run up has looked all year. Fingers crossed his knee is healing!

He looked to be in a bit of strife yesterday at one stage, but came through ok. I didn't think India batted all that sensibly to be fair, but when you face a golden nugget such as that one from Stokesy, there isn't a lot you can do about it. Broad was much more disciplined too in what he was trying to achieve and how!

^ As Butch said 'Barbecued' Man this is the greatest sport on earth!! One natural break, and the match turns again! Again though, Crawley fallible outside off - to one he could have waved past him.
NB What I meant, was still fallible to misjudging where his off stump is!! This time around, so intent on leaving more, Crawley forgot to play the line!!
