RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - amber_is_a_goddess - 01-07-2014 23:54 if it was a foreign manager this time he would have been sacked before he got off the plane. Hodgson is a "winner" though, apparently. England didn't lack motivation. They lacked ability. They lost to Uruguay because despite being the better side for most of the game they made basic errors which gave 2 goals away, which you can't afford to do at international level. England tried hard enough and worked hard enough, but they were poor defensively. So which England players weren't trying then? Rooney's sulking for one didn't help. Gerrard tried but he looked out of his depth in a midfield of 2. anyone who has watched Liverpool last season (assume Hodgson did) can see that he needs legs around him to play his game. Johnson hasn't tried, for club or country for about 18 months now. there was an argument for Terry to be brought but it would "disrupt the squad morale" would it have really mattered? morale would have improved if they were winning games. much as I don't like the man, Suarez doesn't score his second goal if Terry is in that back 4, imo. Tom Ince probably went to Hull cause they offered him more money, laughably. English players have a premium that doesn't exist in any other country.
