The declaration was overdue anyway. I'm surprised they didn't walk off after Kawaja reached his century. Staying out for another 16 balls (which included a drinks break) was just timewasting really.

Khawaja is set to retain his place in the side, but as opener, as Harris misses out, with Head retuning to the middle-order.
Billings is expected to make his debut, after Buttler's return home through injury. Stokes is expected to play as a batsman, with some doubt over whether Bairstow will be risked, Pope would be the most likely replacement. Anderson may be rested, & possibly Leach left out, with Robinson & Woakes potential replacements.
A decision will have to be made, to put Hameed out of his misery, with the only option to recall Burns.

Warner out early.
A good, positive opening spell so far by the England bowlers Smile

Rain cut short a day that started well for England making early inroads in good bowling conditions. At 12-3 it could've been even better with Labuschagne dropped on 0, as Crawley dived for a slip catch that was going straight to Root. What followed was poor bowling as Australia scored at 5 an over for the remainder of the day. With the extra pace of Wood being severely punished. Woakes was ineffective on a pitch that he would clean up on in England, Overton would've been a better option. Broad bowled well, & Robinson impressed again before a back niggle forced him off the field. I doubt that Root expected to have to bowl 10 overs on a green seaming pitch.
Travis Head picked up where he left off with a magnificent counter-attacking innings.

Frustrating batting performance by England.
A number of batters getting starts but then getting out Sad.
