RE: Cricket Banter - Charlemagne - 15-09-2023 15:51 South Africa have their own Ben Stokes, as batsman Heinrich Klaasen smashes 174 runs in the 50 over. Klaarsen was caught off the last ball. David Miller aided by scoring 82 in a 222 run partnership with Klaasen in just over 15 overs. They scored a total of 416-5. Austrailan spin bowler Adam Zampa had 10 overs for 113 runs.. Ouch!!!! Australia to bat. RE: Cricket Banter - Charlemagne - 16-09-2023 09:01 Excellent win yesterday when England beat New Zealand by 100 runs. Dawid Malan's nailed his slot for one of the opening slots with another good score (137). But who else is a certainty for the team. Ben Stokes is included for his powerful batting. But doesn't seem to bowl anymore. Jos Buttler is in as he's one of the world's best one day player and he's also the captain. Liam Livingstone fits the finishing role well, and should make the team But that's it. There's 7 places left for lots of players. There's two batting places for either Bairstow, Root, Brook and Roy. There's one spinner place. Should it be the better spinner in Adil Rashid or the better all rounder in Moeem Ali. And then there's the rest of the bowlers, from Curran and Willey to new boy Atkinson. It's about 4 places for about 8 bowlers. It's a good problem for the management to have. England will have numerous internal flights across India & he would've been a liability. This omission surely signals the end of his international career, he no longer plays first class cricket, & he asked to be released from his England contract in order to play in the new US league. He will be a gun for hire in the T20 leagues around the world. RE: Cricket Banter - lovebabes56 - 18-09-2023 09:46 When I look at England's Cricket world cup squad, I saw posts saying that it is a better & stronger team than 2019 then I saw posts criticising picking Brook over Roy, when Roy has been plying his trade in US this summer and has probably played little OD cricket here to be even considered for selection I hope we can get out of group stage first, then see how far we can go. Biggest mental test will be the Indian crowd noise. Didn't know Roy had injuries, I knew he was in the US. the game that could decide our fate will be that one against Australia. It could be pivotal. RE: Cricket Banter - lovebabes56 - 18-09-2023 09:57 All I hope is that the pitches are fair and honest for all teams, and there is no rain! In india for the WC, we know what we are going to get for example! As a first principle, pitches should be prepared for the contest alone, and It might help if we stopped hearing about how pure batting tracks are great/perfect pitches. No they are not! RE: Cricket Banter - Charlemagne - 18-09-2023 22:09 Jofra Archer is travelling with the squad as a reserve to India, he's still not fully fit. Jason Roy has also been offered a seat on the plane as a reserve player. Brook has opted for rest, after a busy season, instead of more time at the crease after being drafted in to the CWC squad. Root is searching for something in his game, so has asked to play in the 1st ODI today, weather permitting. Rain is due to stop around 2pm, with an expected 2 hours required for a clear up, unless the ground has already taken too much rain. The cut-off is around 17.30 for a minimum 20 over a side match.
