RE: Dr Who - *Kal-El* - 07-10-2018 20:00 I thought the first Ep was alright, am liking the new Doctor, the villain to me felt like a water down Predator and I found it a little predictable. I do like the new theme tho. RE: Dr Who - southsidestu - 07-10-2018 20:30 I enjoyed it, you can't get too much from a first episode, it's too early to tell but what I saw from Jodie I liked. Can we just take a minute thought to acknowledge the production value going into this season, the cinematography and the big sweeping shots of landscape from where Ryan was trying to ride his bike were amazing RE: Dr Who - Regenerated - 07-10-2018 21:17 A reasonably decent start and I thought Jodie settled in to the role of an eccentric Time Lord (or Lady) really well. Having said that, there were some flaws for me - the main flaws being with the monster coming across as a little on the camp side. Didn't really like the banter about his mispronounced name. Chibnall could have left that stuff out. Still, I think she'll be good in the role. Early days of course and as others have said, you can't be too critical of the first episode. I agree there's some nice landscapes and locations in that part of the countryside. Some great photography and location scouting went in to the making of the episode. So that shows the new team have an eye for detail which is important for the show. Plus they didn't throw in too many complex brain twisters and f##k it up straight away, which was also good. A reasonable start and the ending leaves you wanting more, which is also good. Looking forward to how next week plays out now. On the whole then, a good start and I'm liking the new Doctor. Roll on next week. RE: Dr Who - lovebabes56 - 08-10-2018 08:38 It does seem strange not to see the Daleks or Cybermen not appearing this season or did they hint at a possibility in the future? I can imagine her confronting a Dalek and she's having a PMT moment lol RE: Dr Who - lovebabes56 - 08-10-2018 08:40 (07-10-2018 22:56 )Tractor boy Wrote: On first impressions I think Jodie will do a fine job in the role as doctor, the first episodes story line was pretty weak though, and building a sonic screwdriver from scrap material was like something from the A team. Probably that's where Chibnall got the idea from.. RE: Dr Who - KerrAvon - 08-10-2018 08:40 Beforehand I was skeptical about the BBC just throwing us a female Doctor as a PC move rather than simply getting the right actor for the job. But Jodie dispelled those fears, I was impressed by her performance. I'm sure she'll nail her Doctor on more as time goes on. She actually felt quite old school Doctor in fact. The soft reboot was a good & necessary move, far too much clutter & continuity (conflicting too) had been built up in the series, especially from Moffat. I actually like the companions, they didn't feel forced down our throats to like like previous companions I could name. The only let down was the story & some of the weak writing. Despite my criticisms of Moffat, it could've done with The Eleventh Hour type of story but it did the job of introducing Jodie. Hopefully better stories will come, as writing severely undermined Capaldi who IMO was the best Doctor post relaunch. RE: Dr Who - lovebabes56 - 08-10-2018 09:05 I think the worries about there being a female were truly dispelled, I think Jodie acquitted her to the role very well and maybe it is move that gives the role a different perspective unlike Barbara Broccoli saying last week that James Bond could never be played by a woman I would not be surprised if in say, ten years time would get a female Bond. However, if and when Jodie leaves Dr Who, which way should regen go, back to a man or bring in another female Doctor? One for the future discussion I think. And while on the regen subject what was the name of the Chinese character that was around when regens took place in the original series I remember seeing him on screen twice I think - was it Chin Lee or something and who payed him? RE: Dr Who - GMach1 - 08-10-2018 10:11 Eight million tuned in last night according to the report on the news just now and I caught up on SKY+ and I thought she was very good, in fact they all were, but it will take time to establish her as the new Doctor-nice nod to Peter Capaldi with the same clothes he used to wear. |
