S66 FV - Initial impression? Better PQ and fewer, less intrusive D.O.Gs than TS.

Digital take-up in this country is currently something like 96%; 76% of homes have Freeview, 61% have Sky. However, the divergence between those homes with just Freeview and those with Sky is larger than those figures seem, as 34% of homes have only FV.*
....
* All 2014 figures. In comparison only 30% were using just satellite.
61% of homes have Sky! I'm sure Sky would be jumping for joy if that was true. The correct figure (courtesy of Ofcom) is a much more believable 36.8%.
The reason the divergence between those homes with just Freeview and those with Sky is larger than those figures seem is because the figures you quote are mathematically impossible. If 76% of homes have Freeview as you state and 34% have only Freeview as you state, then it follows mathematically that the number of homes with Sky couldn't be more than 42% at the most, not the 61% you claimed.
If you get the figures right the divergence isn't larger than the figures seem. The divergence is only larger than the figures seem when the figures are wrong.
Your statement that only 30% were using just satellite is also mathematically impossible. If 76% of homes have Freeview as you state and 30% were using just satellite as you state, i.e. don't have Freeview, then that adds up to a mathematically impossible figure of 106%.
The correct figure (courtesy of Ofcom) for Sky only households is a much more modest 10.5%. With Freesat included it would still only be about 11%, not 30%.
Finally, the figures quoted above make Freeview coverage and Sky coverage seem close: 76% of homes have Freeview, 61% have Sky. In reality it's much different, as the number of homes with Freeview is more than double the number of homes with Sky.

Although the above doesn't correct it, the figure given by ShandyHand that 34% of homes have only Freeview must also be wrong.
RE: Elite TV/Studio 66 - General Chat & Discussion - admiral decker - 01-04-2016 00:50
Yes that figure's wrong too. The number of Freeview only homes isn't 34%, it's more than 40%.
According to ShandyHand's figures the number of Freeview only homes and the number of satellite only homes are quite close, 34% against 30%. The reality is much different, as the number of Freeview only homes is actually getting on for 4 times the number of satellite only homes.

FV's importance to BS can also be seen in the fact that last year they apparently moved their much-vaunted NICAM broadcasting licence (one that allows them to screen content slightly stronger than that allowed by the cheaper Ofcom licence) to cover specific parts of their FV broadcasts exclusively.

They didn't seem to take any great advantage of the of the much-vaunted Dutch license , and the 'stronger' FV content hasn't been apparent for some time, now.
