RE: FIFA Womens World Cup 2015 - Black Cat - 05-07-2015 06:57 Well done the Lionesses! The overpaid thing about the male team really gets my goat though. Football makes so much money these days why shouldn't the players get their fair share? There are other professions where the top performers get silly money for not doing much (actors and singers for example) but they don't get the same level of stick. It just seems to wind people up that young, working class males get a fortune for kicking a ball around. There was also far less pressure on the female team and they got far more support than the males. Can you imagine the reaction if Phil Jones or John Terry scored a decisive OG in the last minute of a semi? No team has worked harder than these ladies it is just brilliant that they matched & played the no.1 women's team, of the park!! They thoroughly deserve the red carpet treatment coming home!!! they may have not won the world cup but they have shown that you don't need massive pay packets & big headed egos to achieve what you want, to some people they may have under achieved, but its the way they have worked, the way they have picked themselves up in 72 hours to face possibly a bigger test than the final itself and with sheer work commitment and sheer bloody mindedness they have pulled off a history making victory and have given the national sport a massive shot in the arm and a massive boost for women's football now they deserve to have their home fixtures at Wembley for the next four years!! You could get a job at fhe Daily Mail with this piece. Victoria Crosses for bravery perhaps!!!! As someone who has been to a couple of England matches in recent years must say the team has performed very well and will hopefully go on to win the cup next time RE: FIFA Womens World Cup 2015 - cosmonaut - 05-07-2015 10:02 (05-07-2015 06:57 )Black Cat Wrote: There are other professions where the top performers get silly money for not doing much (actors and singers for example) but they don't get the same level of stick. Indeed. Leonardo Di Caprio was paid as much as $25m for appearing in a single film. Perhaps babelover48 can tell us whether this amounts to being overpaid or not? And in music U2 are said to have earned $195m last year, so perhaps babelover48 can give us his thoughts on that? Chef Gordon Ramsey earned $60m last year - it takes Wayne Rooney 3 years to earn that much and some England players probably 8 years or so. I'm not going to comment on whether being paid $25m for a film or not is overpaid or if U2 are overpaid for their music, every industry is different each has it own perspective on what is acceptable or not, the point I was (or is) trying to make that if the lionesses have achieved what they have achieved without massive pay packets, then why aren't the guys showing the same level of attitude as they do every time they pull on that white shirt? Why didn't the golden generation achieve more than what they actually did? why didn't they reach World cup semi finals like the women did I just think that women showed a far better attitude and have shown what you CAN achieve if you prepared to adopt an attitude and not let egos or anything get in the way of your goal. RE: FIFA Womens World Cup 2015 - William H Bonney - 05-07-2015 10:56 With all this talk about pay, it's worth pointing out that England's women players actually earn more than England's men for international duty. For many years now the FA have made a donation to charity for every match that England's men play, in lieu of pay to the players, whereas the England women internationals are on central contracts and are paid £20,000 a year. Since the men are only playing for the privilege of representing England, if anyone's overpaid it must be the women. I apologise if I made a comment that was not based actual fact and thanks for pointing that out to me. RE: FIFA Womens World Cup 2015 - HannahsPet - 05-07-2015 11:29 Yeah difference is that England women are not on between 50-150k a week for there clubs. they deserve the 20k a year RE: FIFA Womens World Cup 2015 - Snooks - 05-07-2015 11:41 So incredibly proud of the Lionesses. A really excellent achievement. RE: FIFA Womens World Cup 2015 - bytor - 05-07-2015 16:55 To say that the men who play for England don't care is totally wrong and comes straight from the back pages of the gutter press who know sweet fuck all. That they lose is not because they don't care its because they quite simply are not good enough when compared to the elite teams. Fuelled by a press who won't let the ghost of 1966 go away , all England squads are handicapped by an over expectant nation. The womens team has done exceptionally well and deserves all the praise but it will be interesting to see how they will cope in future games as they are now a bigger target. You can't compare the mens game with the womens game either as there are far more tougher opponents around the world with higher skill levels and tactical awareness in mens international football. Womens football has raised its profile and I truly hope it continues to grow in the future RE: FIFA Womens World Cup 2015 - Black Cat - 05-07-2015 16:59 Spot on bytor. Well said mate. |
