That's the point right there. Penny Mordaunt was stitched up good and proper by some MPs within her own party.
In many ways it is actually quite amusing that the Tories conspired to shoot themselves in the foot by such a move and ending up with Truss.
However the consequences for the electorate of a Truss administration are considerably less amusing
.Mordaunt imo was undoubtedly the most palatable in amongst a series of dire options for Conservative leader. That isn't saying a whole lot in one sense but she does at least have some semblance of stateswoman like qualities and some basic level of compassion. She would also have been the candidate most likely to win the next election for the Tories.
So in one sense we all got lucky because the MPs made a hilarious tactical blunder which with any luck will condemn them to years in opposition
.No more than they deserve in many ways.
Problem is of course we all have to put up with the Blundertruss for quite a while yet
.Oh and btw Suella Braverman is being more and more exposed as a right nasty piece of work. Deary me. Absolute poison
