FIFA were never involved in the matter and wouldn't have been as it wasn't their competition. Johansson never met Blatter around that time and wouldn't have needed to as Blatter had no great interest in the matter.

On the other hand, do YOU have any evidence to back up this statement?

Blatter had no great interest? Are you kidding? Blatter pokes his nose in EVERYTHING!! It's at the very core of why he's so unpopular WORLD WIDE to ordinary football folk. To be honest, most of what he says and does is out of his remit, but that's never stopped him either voicing an opinion or trying to influence a decision, be it UEFA's or anyone else's......90% of people in football would say that it's his biggest problem!!

Suggesting that FIFA (through Blatter himself) have little or no influence on the rest of the worlds individual football governing bodies (as you have done more than once) is well, simply naive to say the least. In fact, quite the opposite is true.

We could just go round in circles with this but that's my opinion, and i'm quite confident that it's also the opinion of the vast majority of people who follow football or are involved in it. It's why most of us want him removed and i doubt even you can deny that!! Big Grin

Sepp Blatter is a cheat.

Fifa go on and on about endorsing and promoting fair play in the game. The France vs Republic of Ireland match was scandalous, a blatant piece of foul play has tarnished the game. If Fifa had any backbone at all they would have at least replayed the fixture, it would have been the fairest thing to do. They had a representative at this world cup qualifier but did nothing.

I also believe that the draw for the world cup qualifiers was done wrongly, they initially said there would be no seeded teams, but then announced the top 8 seeds on the eve of the draw. The plan is always to have the so called "best teams" in the tournament, so that it looks good on tv. But this doesn't stand up to their argument of promoting fair play in the game. The draw should have just been a random selection, and not manufactured to give certain teams an unfair advantage.

You guys are getting a bit deep. UEFA, CONCACAF and all the other continental bodies are all separate but...fifa is the world governing body for football and will get the final say in everything. Platini and Blatter will be in contact with eachother for any major decision. Sepp Blatter is the most powerful man in world football and nothing gets done without his approval.

Teams are always seeded for the actual world cup draw. I think you're getting mixed up with the play-offs which is where fifa said there would be no seeds and then seeded france, russia, greece and portugal if my memory is right. I have no problem with teams being seeded on merit when it comes to the actual draw but i do have a problem with for example south africa being seeded just because they are the hosts. But after those initial eight seeds the draw should be entirely random. It's not just the seeds that they are protecting it's also the second string of teams who are their preferred option to maintain a global tv audience. eg Mexico will always get an easy draw.

What Barrie says is in accordance with all the media reports at the time, which explain exactly what happened and which members of the UEFA Executive Committee were willing to vote to allow Liverpool in, so that is really all the evidence that's needed.

Of course you will argue that the press didn't report the conspiracy because it was all done in secret to make sure the press didn't know about it. This may make some people wonder how it is that you managed to find out about it when the media didn't, but you've already explained this by saying your theory is only your opinion, so I guess we can leave the matter there. People can either believe the media reports or they can believe your conspiracy theory, it's their choice.

Just because it's my "opinion" doesn't mean that it's not based on fact. Choosing parts of my statement, then isolating them to suit your argument doesn't make you right, far from it.

That's a very clever way of insinuating that my "opinion" is a "conspiracy theory" dreamt up by myself, but i'm afraid that simply isn't the case and most people will see right through it. There were certainly media reporting that FIFA were involved in the Liverpool negotiations with UEFA at the time and as i said earlier the UEFA's (then) press spokesman William Galliard was quite catergoric in his initial statement on behalf of UEFA that Liverpool were OUT and that the whole of UEFA'S board were as one on the issue, including Johannsen, before a complete about turn took place, some weeks later.

Unless you can show evidence that there was no interference from FIFA or no media reporting same, then i'm afraid that your argument carries no more credence nor is any more valid than mine.

Or are we all supposed to believe your version of events, just because you say so?

Well I've just done a quick search on the net for the media reports and I couldn't find any such reporting. The media reports of the time simply focus on the discussion within UEFA. I found one comment saying that Blatter supported UEFA's decision to allow Liverpool in, but that's all.

Begs the question why Blatter would come out and publicly support a decision that (according to Barriebf and Cosmonuat) he had no interest in?

Well, there's a thing......

RE: FIFA / UEFA Conspiracies - admiral decker - 24-03-2010 09:11

Blatter was asked about it at a FIFA press briefing, so I guess he had to say something.

This all seemed to start with the UEFA draw but I've lost track of the argument. Can someone summarise it for me?
