absolutely great - wipe the smug smile off their faces!!!!

The inability to sign a world class forward last summer has finally caught up with Fergie's side.

I have a feeling it's going to be an Inter/Bayern final. And I hope Inter win, because although Bayern did play well over the two legs, we gifted three of their goals. The two in Munich, and Carricks failure to head the ball out for the first at OT.

Oh how I laughed... does this mean that Liverpool are still involved in European competition after ManUre, Arsenal and Chelsea have all been knocked out????

...would rather win the Europa League/UEFA Cup/Whatever its called than be knocked out of the CL in the second round/quarters...

(although if the redmen don't produce on Thursday against Benfica, this post will leave me looking like a right cock...)

Well there's one here for a start. Mainly for his increasingly stupid comments which are an embarrasment. He is also too concerned with his position in the 'greatest managers of all time' debate. Despite what he has won I don't think he comes close to Paisley who moved liverpool onto another level by winning the european cup or clough who won the european cup from nothing and retained it.

I've got to be honest, never really thought about this. I'm inclined to agree, althought the sucess Ferguson has achievede has been amazing.

I'm not saying that what he has achieved hasn't been great. However he wasn't starting from scratch, we were under achieving given what we had won in the past, unlike clough who took a team of never-achievers to two european cups. Paisley wasn't starting from scratch either but he took liverpool to the european cup which shankly had never done. Remember that both of these won it when it was a cup competition rather than the group nonesense that we have now - if you had a poor night in the first round chances are you were out whereas now if you have a poor night in the first group game you've got another five to redeem yourselves. The other thing about paisley is he knew when to get out leaving his legend with the liverpool fans intact - ferguson has overstayed and I think should have gone after we beat chelsea in the final two years ago. Ferguson was also given time at the start of his united tenure which you can guess his eventual replacement won't be given.

No, it means that Liverpool and Fulham are the English clubs left in European competition.

Nice bit of incipient racism from Fergie at the end.
Typical Germans? I remember his team virtually chasing a ref off the pitch!

Really? Liverpool had a bye in the first round the first time they won it and went straight through to the last 16, the next time they played Crusaders of Northern Ireland and beat them 7-0, then on the occasion of their third win they beat Olun Palloseura of Finland 11-2 and finally when they won it the fourth time they beat Odense of Denmark 6-0 in the first round. What was it you said, if you had a poor night in the first round chances are you were out?

What about the year they met Forest in the first round?
