I have Quicktime, but it doesn't give me the option of what format to view in when you hit the link. Any ideas? Thanks for bearing with me on this and for your advice Skateguy.

I use SMPlayer rather than VLC for playing mp4 files these days.

I remember one of my mates having a similar problem a while back. He said that MPlayerOSX for linux & mac fixed the problem. I've never used a mac myself so I can't say if it's any good or not.

^^^ download and use vlc. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

it plays most things. Smile

also for rar files you may need to extract. read this: http://www.babeshows.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=11883&highlight=rar+files

If it has a .rar extension then you need to download WINRAR, to unpackage it, as it is a compressed file.
Or if you already have something like that, your right click menu should have an option to open archive, or similar.
