Honestly I would say toss a coin. The Xbox has had terrible reliability problems but apparently these have been sorted out with the newer versions.

I like the fact that the PS3 has blu ray, but i doubt i would start buying the disc's as most of my films are on dvd.

I have both consoles.

Xbox360 is fine and has a good set of games and has terrific online play (even though you need to pay) but it such a poorly built machine that you should be prepared to send it to be repaired in its first year, mine has broken down twice.
However the cheapest 360 is now at around the £120 mark which frankly is a bargain.

A lot of criticism layed on the PS3 was the lack of games but there are now a generous amount available, certainly enough to keep avid gamers happy.
The console also plays blu-ray brilliantly and has the latest updates so you can use the 'live' feature on the latest discs.
And now there is 'HOME' which is a pretty good online community.

If I had to choose just one console then I'd have to go for the PS3, it costs more but its worth the money.

PS3 all the way, yeah, the XBOX might have a bigger back catalogue of games, but that's all it has over the PS!

plus, i'm more bothered about future games, the blu-ray player which is outstanding, it will also stream your media and well, it's not microsoft! LOL Smile

I personally am a 360 owner and wouldn't have it any other way, but...... I would not recommend the pain and suffering to anyone else. I work for UPS (courier service) whom those of you who have had problems with your Xbox will have had some sort of contact with. We send a trailer from Edinburgh to Tamworth down south with around 2000 parcels on board. One night there were 200 Xbox 360's heading back to Frankfurt for repair. Thats 1 in 10, just 360's. Good advert for Microsoft? I think not.

I have had a 360 ever since the day it was released, has not broken once, neither has my mates who is in the exact same situation. And there is no way that the PS3 has got enough games to satisfy the avid gamer, I have only bought about 10 games for the PS3 ever since it was released (I got that the day of release too), and I have bought more than 50 for the 360, it is the superior machine for gamers by miles. But the PS3 is a kickarse Blu-Ray player, that is honestly what mine is used for 99% of the time, eventually there will be a better collection of games on the PS3 but I doubt it is going to be as good a console for the pure gamer as the 360. Depends what your preference is, just get them both haha.

I had the choice 8 months ago and i decided to go for the 360, and haven't regretted it. Not only is it better in my opinion, but the games go down in price a hell of a lot quicker than the ps3 ones, and theres a hell of a choice in gamestation in the 2 for 20, 2 for 30 and 2 for 40 quid ranges.

I made the following comments on a different thread but it makes more sense being here...

its expensive but once you've added all the extra costs of making the hardware equivalent of a PS3, the PS3 is probably better value for money..

XBox Live (Internet membership, free for PS3) - £40 per year
Wireless adaptor (built in on PS3) - £60
Controller Charging unit (otherwise batteries are required, standard USB lead is supplied for PS3) - £15

Add the fact your getting a top notch Blu Ray player, I would say the PS3 is better value..

I have both..I had the PS3 first and decided to buy an XBox Elite for Gears of War a few months later and I was disappointed with the build quality of it..The PS3 looks and feels quality whereas the XBox doesn't..the PS3 is also very quiet, almost silent whereas the XBox sounds like a combine harvester..

The majority of games that come out now are multi-platform anyway so I would definitely recommend the PS3 over XBox360...

Ok good point cherry, but my xbox is plugged into the router, i have rechargeable batteries for the 360, and i dont use live, so i spose out of them the only expense for me would be the live. I do agree on the sound of the xbox but i never play it on mute so i never notice it. I have never used a ps3 so i cant comment on them. What are the ps3 bad points?
