RE: All-Time Dream XI (with subs & manager) - Regenerated - 19-03-2011 20:59 Great thread Yoda. I do enjoy threads such as these where I can name my favourite players. So I've had a good think and come up with this squad of 21 players. I've included squad numbers for each player, and my selection includes both established all time greats and personal favourites of mine. The manager I've gone for is someone who I hold in the highest regard. First Eleven: 1 - GK - Lev Yashin - Dynamo Moscow and USSR 2 - RB - Cafu - AC Milan and Brazil 3 - LB - Paolo Maldini - AC Milan and Italy 4 - CB - Billy Wright - Wolves and England (captain) 5 - CB - Bobby Moore - West Ham and England 6 - CM - Jozsef Bozsik - Kispest Honved and Hungary 7 - RW - Jairzinho - Botafogo and Brazil 8 - CM - Franz Beckenbauer - Bayern Munich and Germany 9 - FW - Pele - Santos and Brazil 10 - FW - Marco Van Basten - AC Milan and Holland 11 - LW / FW - George Best - Manchester United and Northern Ireland Substitutes: 12 - SWP - Lothar Matthaus - Bayern Munich and Germany 13 - GK - Iker Casillas - Real Madrid and Spain 14 - DF - Alan Hansen - Liverpool and Scotland 15 - LW - David Wagstaffe - Wolves 16 - MF - Ruud Gullitt - AC Milan and Holland 17 - MF - Emlyn Hughes - Liverpool and England 18 - MF - Lionel Messi - Barcelona and Argentina 19 - FW - Gary Lineker - Tottenham Hotspur and England 20 - FW - Gerd Muller - Bayern Munich and Germany 21 - FW - John Charles - Leeds United; Juventus and Wales Manager - Brian Clough - Nottingham Forest RE: All-Time Dream XI (with subs & manager) - malicious fan - 19-03-2011 21:47 thought i would post another one instead of the brazilian national team. Goalkeeper: Peter Schmeichel (Denmark) Full Back: Lilian Thuram (France) Full Back: Paulo Maldini (Italy) Centre-half: Franz Beckenbauer (West Germany) Centre-half: Bobby Moore (England) Midfielder: Mattias Sammer (Germany) Midfielder: Xavi Hernandez (Spain) Midfielder: Zinedine Zidane (France) Midfielder: George Best (Northern Ireland) Forward: Lionel Messi (Argentina) Forward: Romario (Brazil) Substitutes: Peter Shilton (England) Stuart Pearce (England) Johann Cruyff (Holland) Michel Platini (France) Diego Maradona (Argentina) Pele (Brazil) Gerd Muller (Germany) I can't believe I couldn't find a starting place for Pele or Maradona, whom until recently I'd rated the best-ever, but that's what this excellent thread idea does to you - makes you assess things in context of a team. Lilian Thuram is simply the best defender I've seen in my watching time; likewise Matteas Sammer was simply - in my opinion - the greatest sweeper-cum-holding midfield player I've seen in my time and probably the most under-rated player ever (witness his role in Germany's Euro '96 win and Borrussia Dortmund's Champions League success twelve months later - absolutely awesome majestic genius at work). Attack-wise, for anyone who's seen the DVDs and read the books George Best is possibly the most ridiculously over-talented player ever and his misdemeanours and lack of World Cup experiences must never be held against his inclusion - an absolute no-brainer of a selection and together with Sammer and Messi the first three on the list. Up front, Romario just edges out Gerd Muller alongside the incomparable Messi; I honestly can't believe that probably the second-best natural finisher ever (Muller) is only on the bench but one night in Manchester in 1994 convinced me that Romario is just impossible to leave out - pure unadulterated natural-born genius in footballer form! And who to manage them? Cloughie, Shanks and Ferguson were all more about going into battle against adversity so don't get the gig, so bollocks to the lot of 'em, it's MY team so I'll manage it myself and have Pep Guardiola as my assistant with the Foxy Babe to warm them up and tend to injuries - but only after she's seen to mine RE: All-Time Dream XI (with subs & manager) - bigguy01 - 20-03-2011 21:34 (20-03-2011 21:30 )lindor Wrote: with the Foxy Babe to warm them up and tend to injuries alot groin strains, players feeling tired before and after matches/training with FOXY there. maybe a few heart attacks, strokes. RE: All-Time Dream XI (with subs & manager) - n01scruff - 20-03-2011 22:53 Going for a 3-4-3 Diamond formation. Hugely attacking but this team don't have to play together so I'm not that worried about balance. Reckon the defence would be fairly formidable anyway. I'm going for the FM 12 sub limit, still leaving out some legends I'm sure. P. Schmeichal
F. Cannavaro - F. Baresi - P. Maldini
F. Beckenbauer
J. Cruyff - M. Platini
D. Maradona
Ronaldo - Pele - M. Van Basten
