Looks like the porn industry is gunning for Oron as it is one of the main file-hosting sites for sharing pirated porn now :

EDIT : The forum word replacer sees fit to replace words in the above url which breaks it, so here's a shortened version to get around it :

Interesting that the group going after them is funded by the company behind You Porn which itself hosts pirated porn!

Also, according to this report, court orders have been issued against Oron, and their assets frozen, but the site is still up, so this report may not be entirely accurate :

I notice that a couple of the big porn sharing forums have gone down this weekend, don't know if it's connected or not.

RE: Oron - munch1917 - 02-08-2012 12:03

After a troubled period for Oron, today they are dead in the water.

I have heard that they are changing 'providers'. Not sure exactly what that means, usually it means moving to a new host, but Oron must have hundreds of gigs of material to move so that seems unlikely. Could mean they are moving their name provider and/or dns service.
I guess we'll see in the next few days.

Now that oron is gone, what are the alternatives? I use icloud mainly now

Rapidshare remains one of the most reliable places for legitimate content, though personally, I haven't used them since they helpfully deleted all my content after their last big reshuffle.

I see others increasingly using rapidgator and netload, but netload is poor for me for downloading, seems any file above 100mb times out before it finishes downloading and has to start over, only to fail again. Rapidgator seems to offer resumable downloads even for free accounts.
