Now Let's see Mr Murdoch get out of this one!!

Bet they bought stolen ID from playstation and used it to their own end..

And you're right, since when has footballer's affair 'been in the public interest?'
let's hope the Govt decides to get tough...

And he also defends Rebecca Brooks? I realy wonder how much she is keeping back from public knowledge?

Nothing a little re-branding won't sort out, from 'News of the World' to 'Scum of the Earth'.

It would be great if the country started to boycott the NOTW, just like Liverpool did with The Sun after it printed all that crap about the Hillsborough disaster, but realistically i can't see a huge drop in sales of the paper because soon this will all become yesterdays news.
People will be tempted to read the paper still because of some cheap ass 'lets be friends again' promotion they run or they will start up some charity to mask their failings in journalism...'Yes we hack phones but 1p from each paper now goes towards treating alcoholism in puppies' awwww all is forgiven.....

We live in a world where gossip, scandals, injunctions and frivolous news reporting keep many people intrigued and interested, the same kind of people who lose their morales when they are more interested in articles and pictures in the NOTW about what shoes some nobody wore to some event that no one cares about.

There's always been an argument between what is in the public interest as opposed to what is of interest to the public, but if true then the actions of the NOTW are beyond contempt.

I don't know about you, but I usually have very little sympathy for "celebrities" who court publicity, but then bleat about their right to privacy when their lives start to unravel, or politicians who trumpet "family values" whilst shagging their secretaries or rent boys.

However, something that has always bothered me is the way innocent, ordinary members of the public are treated when they or their families are the innocent victims of crimes, tragedies and accidents. I remember a case a few years where a minibus carrying British teenagers crashed somewhere on the continent and there were several fatalities. I saw a news report from outside one of the kid's houses and there were 20-30 cameramen, journalists and reporters camped outside. These ordinary, everyday people had just lost their child but the vultures wouldn't leave them alone. There should be an automatic, blanket right of protection of privacy for such victims.

The danger now is that there will be a knee-jerk reaction the other way, and on a tide of public outrage we will see badly drafted, ill thought out legislation rushed through by the same politicians who did everything possible to prevent publication of their expenses scandal and are cynical enough to spot an opportunity to protect themselves from legitimate scrutiny, exposure and embarrassment.

The ultimate irony for us is that whilst the politicians and regulators dither about whether they have the authority to block the News International takeover of BSkyB, the one body that does have the power to stop it under their "fit and proper" rules are.........OFCOM!

"Forum overwhelmingly backs OFCOM decision to refuse licence".......who says pigs don't fly?

I wonder how long it will be until "The Sunday Sun"

I just hope the people responsible for these despicable actions be brought to account.

'One media observer said it looked like his father Rupert Murdoch preferred to sacrifice the newspaper rather than his chief executive Rebekah Brooks. The move opens the way for a seven-day Sun newspaper which it is believed News International has been planning for some time.'

i too hope all those responsible for these despicable and shocking antics have the full weight of the law thrown at them. feel sorry for the innocent staff who will be losing their jobs

do think that news international will bring a new sunday paper in its place or make the sun a 7 day a week paper

RE: News Of the World Axed Following Phone Hacking - lovebabes56 - 07-07-2011 19:06

I too feel sorry for those innocent in this who will lose their jobs, but it's the heads at the top that we need. James Murdoch, Rupert Murdoch, Rebeckah Brooks and Andy Coulson (even though he resigned) and the current editor.

Furthermore I feel that even in a court of law those who were respensible are more than likely to walk free rather than jailed and if they are they should be banned for life from ever working in any journalism of any kind.

I will NEVER buy the Sun on Sunday.

Why don't OFCOM refocus it's attention on this rather han trying to shut down the BABE channels?
