RE: The European Super League: Discussion - Money_Shot - 17-03-2012 12:54 This is exactly what the TV companies want. Imagine a 20 team European Super League... Real Madrid Man United Chelsea AC Milan Barcelona Bayern Munich Lyon Athletico Madrid Juventus Inter Milan Napoli Man City Althletico Bilbao Lazio Ajax Tottenham Borussia Dortmund PSG Valencia Liverpool That is just some of the teams potentially playing. Europes Elite all playing in a league together, the best players in one league together and the ££££££ would be to much to refuse. RE: The European Super League: Discussion - dan g 27 - 17-03-2012 13:12 ^ WOW, theres not one match I would not watch in that league, it would make a change from watching shit matches such as Maccabi Haifa v Barcelona or Man Utd v Bursaspor RE: The European Super League: Discussion - cosmonaut - 17-03-2012 13:28 (16-03-2012 17:34 )Roger Patterson Wrote: Surely this plan will ruin the Premier League? Won't it also ruin the FA Cup? Because if the top 6 in the league are going to qualify for the Champions League, doesn't that mean that the FA Cup winners won't get into Europe now? ![]() RE: The European Super League: Discussion - bigguy01 - 18-03-2012 22:33 (16-03-2012 18:08 )Roger Patterson Wrote: Why? Putting some of the bigger clubs into the Europa League should have made it more attractive! then call it the champions league losers cup only fit for man city, manure. to me having clubs that qualify for the knock out stages and group stages of the champions league makes the europa league uninteresting RE: The European Super League: Discussion - 7 stars of the orient - 18-03-2012 22:35 (18-03-2012 22:33 )bigguy01 Wrote: then call it the champions league losers cup only fit for man city, manure. to me having clubs that qualify for the knock out stages and group stages of the champions league makes the europa league uninteresting It doesn't matter now does it, if the Europa League is going to be scrapped. RE: The European Super League: Discussion - cmiller - 25-03-2012 22:47 this is one of the worst ideas i've ever heard. the league comes first. competing against and triumphing (hopefully!) over the people you see and live with (meaning country). i can't seriously see our clubs walking away. it simply wouldn't be allowed to happen! the UEFA Cup (like the League Cup) gets a bad rap. what pisses me off is when a club fights to get in it, then plays weakened teams in every match. a trophy is a trophy and worth more than playing six games in the Champions League RE: The European Super League: Discussion - cosmonaut - 19-04-2012 13:18 I see the European Super League plan has been criticised by a few people recently, including Borussia Dortmund Chief Executive Hans-Joachim Watzke who has come out and attacked the idea of abolishing the Europa League and increasing the Champions League to 64 teams, saying "It is complete nonsense. Why should a premium product such as the Champions League be artificially watered down? I have liked almost everything that Platini has done so far, but now he is completely on the wrong path. The Europa League has generally been accepted by the fans. We received 13 million euros from taking part one and a half years ago. That is a significant quantity of money. Of course, the financial difference between the Champions League and Europa League is very big, but could be reduced by solidarity contributions from the Champions League to the Europa League." RE: The European Super League: Discussion - 7 stars of the orient - 27-03-2013 11:23 It looks like the Europa League is going to be kept after all, with UEFA giving serious consideration to giving the 2 finalists automatic entry to the Champions League the following season. So instead of being merged with the Champions League, the Europa League would now carry the added incentive of having Champions League places available and that might give it the added attraction that it needs to survive. The incentive is a good idea but can you imagine the outcry when 2 English teams reach the final therefore depriving the 3rd and 4th in the Premier League from entering the Champions League, unless they change the rules of course. RE: The European Super League: Discussion - Fernandez Esperenda - 27-03-2013 18:50 Personally I think if they just increased the prize money in the europa league or Just let the winners into the champions league next season it would make teams take it more seriously, I really like the europa league though, there has been some great games over the last few seasons, people say it's full of weak teams ect but look what happened when United were played off the pitch twice by bilbao for example or Man City getting beat at home by Sporting. This season there have been some better teams in the Europa than in the Champions League. |
