You may want to pick out a team depending on it's location within the States, in which case see these:

Or may wish to pick by their look or colours:

For those interested in a bit of history, this is what the AFL looked like before the merger.

I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan of 30 years and would recommend following them for a number of reasons. Long-time losers who became winners post-1970 merger, family owned (Rooney family are a leading force generally for good in the NFL), 3 coaches in last 43 years (Chuck Noll 1969-91 with 4 Super Bowls; Bill Cowher 1992-2006 with 1 Super Bowl win and one loss; Mike Tomlin 2007-when he resigns? 1 Super Bowl win and one loss). Excellent defence (coached by Hall of Famer Dick LeBeau), big game QB in Ben Roethlesberger (makes plays but takes sacks on the field, too colorful off the field) and a lovely stadium.

Alternatively, go for the Green Bay Packers. You've got to realise how tiny Green Bay is (think somebody like Barnsley winning the Premiership), original franchise, community owned, wait for decades for season tickets, great players (Rodgers now, Favre before him) and the pride of small town middle America.

Support both as the Steelers are in the AFC and the Packers are in the NFC.

I have always been the Dallas Cowboys and have been to the stadium which was a remarkable experience.

I picked the Packers back when Channel 4 started showing the sport purely based on the fact that they have a stupid name.

Oakland Raiders have always been the bad boys in the NFL... So if your an aged Hell's Angel then they are the team for you.

But there's only one was to sort this out....
It's poll time.

I'm not a big American Football fan bit from what I've picked up I think the Boston Celtics and New York Yankees are quite popular

If we're talking about following the richest and the most fabled and most popular team ever it's probably the Dallas Cowboys. They've won 5 Super Bowls, are the only team to have 20 consecutive winning seasons in their conference playoffs from 1966 - 1985 and generate about $269 million in annual revenue.

If you want to follow the most successful team ever in the game, it's the Pittsburgh Steelers. They've won 6 Super Bowls, won 8 AFC championship games and played in and hosted more conference games than any other team. They're also one of the oldest teams in the NFL - they formed in 1933.

The team with the most colourful uniform is probably either the Miami Dolphins (turquoise, white and orange), the Buffalo Bills (red, blue and white) or the Arizona Cardinals (red, white and yellow).

Personally, I have a liking for New York sports teams - I like the New York Rangers (ice hockey) and New York Knicks (basketball) So the NFL counterpart is either the New York Giants or the New York Jets.

Or failing all those, as others have said, you could just pick out the teams with the sexiest cheerleaders - of which there are many. My favourite are the girls who cheer for the Washington Redskins. Smile

^^^Can't argue with you re-Redskins cheerleaders although the Cowboys and Raiders cheerleaders are pretty hot as well. While the Steelers are an old NFL team dating back to 1933 when the Chief - Art Rooney - founded the team, they're not as old as the Packers, Bears or Giants who go back to the 20s.
