Important You can still use smilies in the quick reply box, but need to type them in.

This message was written using the quick reply box and it still includes a smiley.

I think the answer to BigChuck's question regarding the quick reply box is that if you gave the quick reply box all the usual functions including smilies, there simply wouldn't be any point in having a quick reply box at all, as it would be identical to the new reply option.
