How do we know this? Surely Roy Hodgson's opinions are currently unknown.

Without doing any research, I seem to remember The FA banning Alan Smith for taking his place in the England squad for a qualifying match (I think) in Turkey due to a Police charge/investigation relating to a bottle throwing incident which brought about the infamous Garry Neville player revolt.
So how can John Terry be allowed to be selected for a major tournament & possibly captain the side & lift the trophy when he's on a Police charge for racism???

That said The FA are abunch of fucking useless twats at the best of times, look at the Wayne Rooney nonsense.

Because he hasn't been proven guilty.

Only a couple of hours to go now until we get the squad for real. Rio Ferdinand's friends are busily tweeting that he's been left out of the squad for non-footballing reasons, so people are no doubt going to be highly interested in what Roy Hodgson has to say about that.

RE: Pick Your Euro England Squad - cosmonaut - 16-05-2012 11:36

Alex Ferguson didn't exactly help Rio Ferdinand did he? With his comments the other day that Rio could struggle to play twice in 4 days. That gave Roy Hodgson a good reason if if needed one to leave Ferdinand out.

Looks like Carrol's in, and Ruddy is the 3rd goalkeeper.

Dropping Rio is a positive move by Roy Hodgson as Rio's well past his sell by date.
Also missing will be Kyle Walker and Micah Richards

Edit. The FA have stated that Rio has been omitted from the squad.

Downing is the only surprise to me once it was known that Ferdinand wasn't in the squad.
