I don't claim to know the ins and outs of the reason behind his decision to go to bed, but there seems to be something to it, as I notice a number of other members also went to bed last night, though most did so quietly, without feeling the need to announce it.
Nevertheless, I think admin should look into it and address the issues behind it. If fine upstanding members keep going to bed at night, this forum will soon deteriorate.

Maybe admin could change the options on the status page to "I'm here", "I'm away" and "I've gone to bed"? Would certainly end a lot of the confusion about the situation. I've been a total wreck today, worrying about this.

I am awake. But it is possible that in the next 24 hours I will be going to bed again at some point. Just one of those things. Anyway how can I write "I'm awake" in a thread called "going to bed"? It's a real paradox. Wow. The world is an awesome place.
