RE: Death Penalty Verdict For Lindsay Sandiford - munch1917 - 25-01-2013 08:24 I don't support the death penalty, BUT, this woman bought this on herself. 1.7mil worth of cocaine is a fuck of a lot, we aren't talking a little bag stuffed down her knickers or something. If she was being coerced into doing it, there had to be some other option, go to the police immediately, before getting caught or something. Having said that, she co-operated once caught, and helped catch the real masterminds, so should have been shown some leniency in the sentencing. For those that say the death penalty should only be for murder, let's not forget that drugs kill as well. 1.7mil worth of cocaine will most likely lead to many deaths once it hits the streets. If this woman had been given a gun and told to go shoot someone would people have the same sympathy towards her then, or if she had been given a bomb to smuggle onto the plane. It's easy to divorce the drugs from the end result that they so often cause, but fact is that much cocaine will probably do more harm to more people than any gun or bomb would. RE: Death Penalty Verdict For Lindsay Sandiford - Scottishbloke - 24-04-2013 19:48 An update on this story, since her death sentence was handed down she has lost her appeal and has had to rely on money kindly donated to fund her next appeal to the Indonesian Supreme Court. If this fails then it is only the King that can grant her clemency. On the issue of her latest appeal I think the UK Government should hold it's head in shame as they refused to financially aid her on this occasion despite the fact that this country is strongly opposed to the death penalty and that's the way it treats one of it's former citizens. A fucking disgrace if you ask me The full story can be viewed here. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/public-raises-funds-for-british-grandmother-lindsay-sandiford-to-launch-death-sentence-challenge-at-indonesian-supreme-court-8584231.html RE: Death Penalty Verdict For Lindsay Sandiford - bytor - 26-04-2013 06:18 (24-04-2013 19:48 )Scottishbloke Wrote: I think the UK Government should hold it's head in shame as they refused to financially aid her on this occasion despite the fact that this country is strongly opposed to the death penalty and that's the way it treats one of it's former citizens. A fucking disgrace if you ask me But why should the UK government use it's taxpayers money on someone who you say is a 'former' citizen. Surely if she turned her back on her country of birth to move to a 'better' life in another country then her adopted country should be the ones to offer her financial aid and not the beleagured people in this country? Day after day I deal with people in this country who have less chance in life by the day with this government in power. I see people having to budget on a tiny income, cope with no jobs or ill health, with a growing number reluctantly surviving off food parcels from charities to survive. Lets start to look after our own before we worry about those who commit criminal activities abroad. Even if she loses another appeal it is more than likely she will get clemency as no doubt at that point the UK government will likely do a deal. RE: Death Penalty Verdict For Lindsay Sandiford - seth - 26-04-2013 17:11 I don't agree with the death penalty for something like this. 20 years before parole would be a faired sentence. She's 56 so she'd likely die within those 20 years, there's no need to give her the death sentence. RE: Death Penalty Verdict For Lindsay Sandiford - mr williams - 26-04-2013 21:44 I am opposed to the death penlty full stop, but it isn't for us to tell other countries how to run their judicial systems and it certainly isn't for us to claim that we are morally better than them. RE: Death Penalty Verdict For Lindsay Sandiford - alwayswanking - 26-04-2013 22:01 At the end of the day, this is another countries rules RE: Death Penalty Verdict For Lindsay Sandiford - marco01 - 26-04-2013 22:20 I agree with the above comments, i personally dont agree with the death penalty, but when you commit a crime in these countries, which have really strict laws, you should face up to the consequences of your actions if you are caught. RE: Death Penalty Verdict For Lindsay Sandiford - Scottishbloke - 09-03-2015 00:03 This is the latest update for Lindsey Sandiford and the news is grim. Barring a miracle or final intervention from the British Government she faces the almost certainty of the firing squad next month having received the sentence back at the start of 2013 after receiving a letter informing her of her fate. I've already made my feelings quite clear on my opposition to death penalty. If it had been for a murder committed then I probably wouldn't be all that sympathetic to her plight. Sure what she did was wrong, it was an obvious get rich quickly crime which was carried out but in my opinion she does not deserve to die for it.
