Who did the estimate? I only ask because the Daily Telegraph recently stated it was 669,000 and later in the same article contradictorily said it was about a million, but now you say it's over 2 million. The Daily Mail claimed about a month ago it was 1,079,000. I also found a figure published in the Guardian of 1.6 million, but that's for people from the EU as a whole living in the UK, not just eastern Europeans.

The estimate come from an online immigration census company.

According to the official census of 2011 the figure then was 1,114,368.

Ok i will bow to official statistics and agree the figure is nearer 1.2 million. Still far too many for this little island to cope with.

I think it has to be a vote to stay. Money_Shot and Hannah'sPet both put forward some very clear, relevant and important points for it.

Perhaps its a quick, knee jerk reaction to answer leave, but I think the UK would be screwed even more (if thats possible) in the long term if they did. All I can say is don't take to account everything that certain political divisions and newspapers spread - it's not all what it seems.

Got to stay.

It seems that overall the figures are even, with 1.6m EU citizens from other countries living here and 1.6m of us living elsewhere in the EU.

It doesn't often get mentioned but more people leave the uk to emigrate around the world each year than come into Britain as immigrants...and what are we when we go to live in someone elses country; immigrants. As for UK leaving the EU it would be madness for all the reasons that have already been mentioned. Far better that the UK be a leading member of the EU, working with the other member nations to formulate strong economic policies and eradicating inefficiencies. Sadly there are too many in this country who still think Britain has an empire.
