Monty Python Are Back! - Billy_Nomates - 02-07-2014 10:48

The surviving members of the cult comedy group Monty Python are temporarily reformed to perform a series of 10 live shows in London. The first of these was at the O2 arena last night (1st July). All the players are into their 70's as they regaled well-known sketches in front of a hugely appreciative audience. The critics were kind in giving them 3 out of 5 for their performance.

The word "groundbreaking" is overused but in Python's case it was certainly appropriate.
You try telling that to Spike Milligan fans today... and they won't believe you Wink

What people tend to forget is that only about 1/3 of the shows have been fed into collective consciousness as greatness, whether through repeats or use in their stage shows/films. There are still plenty of good sketches left forgotten about. I should name some examples, but, er... well...

Much as I like comic book movies, I still compare them to 'Bicycle Repair Man' Big Laugh

There have been some critics who have questioned the very notion of MP reforming for this final one-off 'farewell' shows. They argue that the mixed reviews they are currently receiving may tarnish their long lasting reputation.

I'm sure the mixed reviews they received when they did the original TV shows didn't do them any harm, did they? So what does it matter now.

I don't think they will be too worried about the critics, some of which have complained that the Python shows feature scantily clad girls, which they say is sexist in this day and age.

For anyone unaware, the internet term 'spam' is derived directly from the Monty Python sketch called Spam.
