Wimbledon will be different this year in the women's singles without her. She was a fighter on and off court and to see someone pass away so quickly to liver cancer and young is tragic especially when that person happens to be an athlete right at the peak of his/her game like Elena was. British Tennis will feel her loss more than anything. Condolences to all her family, friends and team mates. R.I.P.

Very sad to hear Elena has lost her battle with cancer. I remember growing up watching her father playing for Ipswich Town. RIP

Nice touch from those at the Madrid open to honour her with a minute's silence Hope this can be replicated at both Paris and Eastbourne and Wimbledon. I guess liver cancer is one that you don't expect to pick up or you don't even know you have, but is it rare?

Tragic to go so young. RIP Elena

Amazing to think it is a year since her death.

It is a nice touch that the Nottingham Tournament trophy will be named after her

I agree.
It is lovely that her legacy lives on.
She is much missed.
