Doesn't matter what it is to be honest. It's an iconic series from the past with characters that are forever linked to the actors that played them. They cannot be seriously recreated by any other actors in my opinion. It has disaster written all over it and as has been mentioned previously Why??? eek

Because Dad's Army is a national treasure and has a significant fan base to tap into, making it an interesting proposition for a film, and perhaps better than a project which would be starting from scratch. The existing fan base may jump at the chance to see a new Dad's army story.

It could be the case that the BBC have had success with bringing back one of their old shows. Over Christmas they broadcast 'Still Open All Hours' with David Jason reprising his role as Granville - and other characters (played by the original actors who are still with us) as well.
This was a huge success. Apparently over 14 million viewers tuned in to watch. With this the BBC have now commissioned an entire new series. Therefore, they may have thought to recreate this success with 'Dad's Army'?

I wasn't actually asking 'why' as a question. More a statement showing my horror. Just my opinion of course. Everyone else in the ountry might think it's an interesting proposition and welcome the chance to see an old classic rewritten with a modern twist no doubt. A fresh outlook starring todays top talent.

There has already been a film version of 'Dad's Army'. It was in 1971 when a big screen spin-off was made. At that time most British TV comedy shows were given the feature film treatment. Most were appalling, however, IIRC the 'Dad's Army' film wasn't too bad.
