You could try disabling DirectWrite, go to chrome://flags (in the address bar) then press enable on disable DirectWrite (on mine its the 4th option)

I had to switch to using Opera to overcome that issue.

^^^ The issue with bbcode in firefox is a separate issue unconnected with the problem the original poster is having.
It is a known issue created from FF version 16.1 onwards, it's an incompatibility with the javascript. The issue is fixed in the latest versions of myBB (the forum software used for this forum). There was also a patch released for other myBB versions, or the patch can be applied manually to fix the issue.

The problem was touched upon previously in this thread :

http://www.babeshows.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=57749

The fix is covered here :

http://community.mybb.com/thread-127322.html

I seem to recall there may be some scripts available for use with greasemonkey or stylish which may provide a workaround on the user side, but I haven't investigated.I'm quite familiar with bbcode, so I usually just enter the code manually when composing a post.

EDIT : Had a feeling we'd covered this in more detail before, and it seems we did, I posted much the same info here :
