Always thought he was a terrific player. I thought he was a petulant, rotten person for a long time though. Then I listened to a couple of lengthy podcasts in which he was thoroughly interviewed after his autobiography came out. He came across as so irredeemably thick that he was almost impossible to hate. I now think that all of the controversy and dysfunction that seems to follow him just comes from that simple place ... his thickness!
