Piers is going into battle against the BBC. Presumably with his eyes closed

According to the BBC itself, the elderly are by far the biggest consumers of their output with the average age of a BBC viewer being 62. This means that continuing to charge only younger people for TV licences would amount to making them fund the cost of a service that the main users of it get for free.

Given how the elderly generation benefited FAR greater than our own generation - more value for your money, cheaper homes to buy, MUCH less rent etc I really don't understand the objection from people that say it's unfair to the elderly. It's the younger people that SHOULD have - at least - a discount.

Few of us will be 75 and have a healthy bank balance, or be fully paid-up home owners at the current rate.

In was agreed with the last Labour government that the BBC gave free licences for the over 75 on condition tht they could put up the licence fee.

Since then they have twice put up the fee.

So they should now reduce the licence fee

Typical whinging self entitled baby boomers thinking the country owes them

bet most of them spend the same on a bottle of wine as they would have to pay monthly on Direct debit for the tv licence

The labour goverment paid for it !!!

then Osbourne said the BBC must pay for it and here we are

Simple answer, NO ONE should pay for a TV license. It should be scrapped, the sooner the better. The BBC is archaic and a left over dinosaur from a by gone era. Some of the ludicrous salaries some of the “stars” are on is insane. Hardly anything decent on the channels anyway so the license fee is hardly going on production!! Just goes on the snobbish “elite” knobs like Gary Lineker and other cronies salaries. An absolute waste of money.
