Will Stokes be fit for the next test in Durham

No, Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the second Test on his home ground. Chris Woakes replaces him in the 12 man England squad.

2nd test from Durham

England's won the toss and has surprisingly have decided to bat

Woakes for Stokes is the one England change. Not much of a crowd at Durham, when will they be given another test match?

Sri Lanka said they would have batted first too, if they had won the toss, so I don't think England doing so is that surprising.

England at lunch 83/2. Compton out for 9 which is a shame, as he needed runs to keep his place and I don't see any convincing alternatives.

At close of play England have reached 310-6

Surely moving Root to 3 would go some way to solving England's top order problems. This would also allow whoever comes in for Compton (if indeed he is replaced) to bat at 4/5 which is much easier than in the top 3. I'd go back to Ballance, he averages 47 in Tests and was pretty harshly treated last year I felt

The Sri Lankan keeper has just missed the easiest catch ever. He had to move 6 inch to his left but didn't even get a glove on it and it went for four.
The slip fielders are avoiding giving him eye contact.
