His time as England manager was always going to be a difficult one and I felt he was cruelly taunted by the media during that role. After Italia '90 and before Shearer, Sheringham, Adams, Ince etc at Euro '96, the team was in a transition phase with many veteran players past their best and before the new guard had gained sufficient experience to join the squad. That job came at the wrong time and it would have been difficult for anyone during the USA '94 campaign.

At club level he was a well respected manager known for strong organization skills and for having the ability to help younger players develop their careers, and he enjoyed success with Lincoln, Watford, Aston Villa and Wolves. In more recent times he worked extensively for Radio 5 Live as a pundit, providing analysis during England qualifying campaigns and on league match days.

I hope there will be a fitting tribute at the Wolves v Aston Villa match on Saturday and I'm sure many people from Watford and Lincoln will also want to pay their respects. A football man through and through who will be missed in the game.

RIP Graham. Sad
